Wow, I'm glad I found this thread cause I also have this horrible coating and now I have hopes for not having to give up vaping!

I have vaped almost 1 1/2 year, and until 6 weeks ago I vaped 100% PG with no problems, but after I changed to 70/30 PGVG my throat and everything close to it (larynx, nasal cavity, even upper part of the esophagus) has felt completely covered by some thick film that just won't go away. When I eat it seems like some of the food get stuck and it sometimes make me regurgitate, but the coating is still there. Clearing the throat, swallowing or coughing doesn't help. I drink ridiculous amounts of water, but it seems like the water is repelled where the coating is! I've tried drinking tea made of loads of expectorant herbs and spices, but it doesn't help. Gurgling salt water helps a little bit. It's way frustrating!

OK, I'm a bit whiny now, but thought I would describe it well so the info may be helpful to others who experience this.

So... Those of you who react like this to VG and have switched to high or 100% PG, how long did it take before it became better/disappeared?

hello all! 17 days since my last cig after 30 years of smoking. I am thrilled!!!!! cant believe how easy it was to quit using vaping as a replacement. I am experiencing all the wonderful benefits: ease of breathing, return of sense of smell, no more coughing, no more smoke smell, clean house, car, windows, etc.
now for one small issue. I have this feeling like there's something on the back of my throat. not enough to make me cough, but makes me want to clear my throat all the time. anyone else experience this? is it the pg/vg? any suggestions for eliminating this?
thanks for any input.

Seems I cannot post in the topic areas of choice and found after reading I am restricted due to "newness" LOL
Not a problem for this old bird.

I quit smoking on January 1 of this year. I used the patch for three days and went cold turkey from there on (I smoked for over 40 years).

I began to gain weight because of my constant need to eat/have something in my mouth. So, about 3 months and with a gain of 22 pounds, e-cigs/vaping caught my eye & I began reading everything and anything I could about this "saving grace" alternative for people like me who liked to smoke, but had to quit. My daughter had bought me a ecig premium cartridge starter set for Xmas 2013 so that's where my journey began. Now I have an ego-T and evod VV.

For liquids, I prefer 0.0 nicotine but it doesn't curb my anxiety or produce the "calmness" I achieved when I used to smoke. I don't like throat hits that come from more nicotine. I have tried 11, 18, 10, 0.6 and now a mixture to get to the 0.3/ higher VG (80) lower PG (20).

Health-wise, I have developed an itch in my throat followed by thick yellow phlegm. Mind you this is months after already having quit smoking. I hate to admit it but I really think it's due to the vaping/electronic smokes irritating my throat after a good session of vaping. The irritation usually takes form when my body is at rest (sleeping) and then by next morning. Has anyone else discovered this is true for themselves? I don't know what to do. I like vaping now but my body is telling me it is really not cracked up to be everything it's supposed to be.

I need to find the solution to get me to that calm place (especially for work) - as to your question on suggestions to eliminate this --- stop vaping I say as I pull softly on my VV

Most people eventually discover that they have to sip on water when vaping to keep the throat from drying out. A feeling that you need to cough can just be dry throat. Try drinking half a glass of water and waiting 5 minutes. I'm betting that you'll cough and clear once the water thins whatever it is in your throat.

If it's not dry throat, then it may be PG irritation. Some people experience that or the effect of the nicotine. With vaping, the nic is absorbed by the mucous membranes in the mouth and sinuses. When you smoked, it was absorbed by the lungs for the most part. Sugarless peppermint or hard candy can make a big difference in mouth dryness.

Vaping is larger particles of misted water/PG vapor that condense in the bronchial tubes. Smoking is microscopic particles of nicotine and tar coated ash that actually enter your lungs and coat the linings. Yes, that's what smoke is made of. It's tiny particles of combustion.

Please see my post above -- I should have included your post as a quote. Thanks
It seems like VG is not for me (no problems with 100% PG), but that may not be the case for you. For me the phlegm builds up after just a couple puffs and it doesn't go away neither by clearing the throat, coughing or water.
Maybe your phlegm comes from your body itself to cover your sore throat?
OOps, "your phlegm" made it sound cozy

Me? Sore throat? Nope.... I wish! Then I could blame it on that! I have this thickness (feeling) circling my throat. Makes my throat itch. When I wake up in the morning I have to try hard to purge my body of this thick darker yellow phlegm. It's hard to get up. It better not be getting cozy inside me! LOL

while not knowing the truth behind it, I heard that PG was more harmful/harsh than the VG.... Can anyone tell me the exact differences between the VG and the PG --- and why they like/dislike them? Thanks!

At least you're able to get it out of your throat, right? By coughing? I almost can't get any of it out, and the little I get out comes from gurgling with warm, very salty water. I also drink ridiculous amounts of water, but it seems like the water just can't get through the coating!!!

I used to have phlegm problems back when I sat in midst of a cloud from burning incense at all times (stupid, I know!), but not in the throat so much since I didn't inhale much of it by mouth. REALLY frustrating for me as a singer! I had to have a spittoo next to me all the time when I sang, sooo disgusting! I didn't smoke at that time, only the incense :D

PG is used in asthma inhalators, so it can't be very harmful. VG is probably not as "organic" as it may sound, hehe. You get loads of info when you google "difference PG VG".
The main points seem to be:
PG - more throat hit (although some say they get the same TH with VG), no taste in itself
VG - smoother vape, slightly sweet.

I guess you already know why I dislike VG, so I'll leave this part to others :)

The more VG I vape, the more my lungs feel heavy. It's like I take a breath and don't get enough oxygen. If I keep it at no more than 80pg/20vg I'm fine. Lots of people report the heavy lung feeling with VG.

I know VG coats the lungs more than PG. We used a fog machine onstage here and there years ago. We found out quickly that you can't use a fog machine on a hardwood stage. It coats the stage so much that it's like trying to walk on a freshly waxed floor. I slid several feet once and almost crashed with a $1800 Les Paul strapped around my neck. No more!

Experiment with 100% PG for a while and then graduate toward more VG if you think you want it. My VG is Humco VG from Walmart. I can control what I add to a PG juice to increase the vapor. It's the way to find the sweet spot that produces the vapor without the lung heaviness or coated throat feeling.

Gotta love that throat hit tho..

I like a little throat hit, too. Too much VG and it starts to go away. My sweet spot is about 80pg/20vg. Any more than that and it's too bland, like inhaling vapor from a tea kettle, especially since I graduated downward from 24mg to 11mg nic.

I have heard of some that have an intolerance to PG.. in any event, you will experience some dehydration symptoms. Ive started keeping a glass of water on my desk since I started.. Are you using commercial e juice, or DIY?

I use premixed Inawera, Hangsen, Dekang + a couple of others. All 70/30 PG/VG. With 100% PG I had no problems. I have PG and flavours coming my way now, so I'll soon find out how much VG I can tolerate.
I drink 5-6 litres of water a day :p I just love drinking water!

Jeez! Glad you didn't crush it! VG probably sticks to anything! I just wonder why most people tolerate it when us others don't...? Do we have less enzymes? Do we have stickier throats?
