Few Questions from a Skeptic

Hello everyone,

Been reading this forum for a couple days now and really want to give this a try.

I've been smoking since I was 16 (now 30), and I smoke about a pack a day of the cheapy Pyramid Light 100s. I am reaching the "nesting" stage of my life where talks of marriage and children are getting more frequent, so I would like to quit smoking.

Never tried to quit before because I'm just that dedicated lol. I even have a set number of cigarettes I try to get through during my work day, like 2 each break, 2 on the way to/from work, etc.

So, I have been looking around at what to purchase and have a few questions that I'm still confused on.

Most people recommend the 510 from cignot.com to start with?

How long does the atomizers last? Should I purchase extras?

How long does the battery last in the 510? If it's, say two hours, is that two hours period, or two hours of actual vaping?

I'm assuming the LEDs are the tip? What's the difference between automatic and manual? Which is better?

And how long does liquid or cartridges last? I'm confused if I buy the 510 will I be buying replacement cartridges or liquid?

I'm so lost, but would like to try this with little investment. I have a habit of thinking some toy is going to be the latest and greatest, spending TONS of money on it, then deciding I hate it and throw all the money away I spent on it. Don't want to do that here!

Oh, and is there women out there that vape and are currently on birth control pills? One of my concerns along with overdosing on nicotine!

Attys should last from 2 weeks to months and months. Some die in days. Yes you should get extras.

Depends on how much you vape. I have a PCC and it keeps them charged fully when I am not vaping. That would be 2 hours, not 2 hours vaping. I good guess would be, uhh 30 min vaping...

No big difference IMO, the auto has an issue with direct dripping as it may ruin your batter and very loud enviroments, ie a club with going off in your hand/pocket. However I can hold it in my mouth and play video games and not have to hit the button. The auto has a cut off and the manual does not. I would say most prefer the manual.

And how long does liquid or cartridges last? I'm confused if I buy the 510 will I be buying replacement cartridges or liquid?

Each pre filled cart lasts about 5-10 worth of analog cigs. Buy some carts maybe 10 and re fill them with liquid. My first 10ml of liquid lasted me around 10 days or more. THis also depends on how much you vape. However it is MUCH cheaper in any case.

Oh, and is there women out there that vape and are currently on birth control pills? One of my concerns along with overdosing on nicotine!

Talk to your doctor about this one. Some warning signs of OD on nic is headakes, blurred vision and diarea.

I agree with the above except I'd recommend manual batts cause you WILL flood the atty We all did/do, it won't hurt the manual batt if you do, it kills auto batts

I'd agree with the above too except I'd recommend an M401 model instead of a 510. The battery will last longer per charge, the taste is superior to a 510 because it doesn't get as hot and they are a bit smaller than a 510. Of course this is my opinion after extensively using both models. Here is the 401 Phoenix from Truesmoker as a suggestion. Their customer service is top notch!

I never gave up smoking before either Firegrl.
As for nic and birth control - well right now you are SMOKING - whatever is in vapor liquid is safer than whats in your ciggie and ALL birth control devices say specifically not to smoke whilst on them for a massive list of reasons.
Nic itself shouldn't affect the efficacy of the pill, but I don't have a degree n pharmocolgy or chemistry so I can't quantify it. All I can tell you is that I smoked 20 years, was on birth control for at least 10 of those, and was lucky not to get any blood clot or anything else they warn you about. I gave up the birth control pills for condoms because they aren't chemical. Rather oddly I didn't give up the fags I guess our brains are wired towards our addictions.
Birth control pills/injections themselves aren't 'safe' per se either. We fill ourselves with chemicals then seem surprised when crap happens - go figure lol
All doctors would prefer that we don't take ANY other drug (which would include things like caffeine and nicotine) along with their prescribed ones because the interractions (while static in lab tests) can vary wildly person to person and depend not jsut on the intake but on the living conditions and lifestyle of each patient- as well as each patient herself (my normal biochemistry while being within a range, may be quite different from yours and affected differently by different drugs).
Short answer: If you are smoking and taking birth control then vaping and taking birth control will be no different and MIGHT be 'safer'.

I'm a newbie myself, as you can see, and don't have much to add ... except to put in my vote for the KR808 for a first unit. Very easy to use and the vape tastes great! I presently have three PVs, including a 510 ... the 510 is at the bottom of my list. But, it could be your favorite! Lots of people like it.

I concur with NCC; I started with a 3 piece but vastly prefer the two piece units like the KR808 (I am now using Vapor King from Vapor4Life). In contrast to your history, I have quit many times before, but no longer have the urge for analogs whatsoever - even when drinking around other smokers which was my usual downfall. You could spend many weeks and hours like I did scouring this site, reading endless opinions and reviews. In my opinion, there are three basic categories of vapers on this awesome forum: 1. The hardcores with all kinds of mods and highly developed knowledge and experience, 2. The 510 group, and 3. The KR808 group. If you don't have the time to do all the research (or time to waste getting caught up in all the interesting tangents), then I recommend you opt for either the 510 or KR808. I think the KR808 is far better than the POS I started with, and although cannot speak from firsthand experience for the 510, I am sure it is just as good as the KR808. Each have their fan camps, pluses and minuses, but you can't go wrong with either option based on my investigation. Down the road, you may find yourself pursuing more advanced technical solutions, but for now, just get started. Can't advise you regarding medical issues, you should definitely consult your doctor - check out the excellent medical risk forums on this board as well. Good luck with your decision, hope you can spend more time reading here to make an informed decision!

It will give you a good idea of what's involved and if you don't like it, you're not out much money.

I would add a +1 for one of the disposeable 510s from madvapes..
it's $10...madvapes is a good place to order from..and well disposeable in this case just means the battery can't be charged as many times as a regular 510 before it won't hold a full charge anymore but it's actually trending to be a lot longer than most people have expected out of them..and if you decide to stick with it then you have an extra 510 atty from the disposeable..
That being said I've got 3 PVs now a 510, an eGo, and a KR808D-1 (henceforth just refered to as the KR8)..and I'd put the KR8 as my least favorite of the 3 and not what I'd suggest for a new person...starting with a KR8 is just more expensive when you're trying to nail down flavors you like and a fitting nic lvl..it's also my least favorite flavorwise..
If I were new and knowing what I know now, and knowing that I like vaping...my first choice of a stock model would be the eGo but the $80 initial cost is prohibitive for a lot of people not knowing if they like vaping or not..it too also uses 510 atomizers so starting with a 510 or a disposeable 510 you can still use your atties and carts on it..

Look, no one is an expert, but you know that. You look to these guys with tons of experience of vaping. Very good start. However, I agree with the post on blood clots or assosiated risks. I, myself was on birth control for 2 years while I smoked. Not a heavy smoker at all at the time, bout 1/2 pack a day. Given the chemicals in cigarettes vs. the mildness of ecigs... I wouldnt worry too much. I'd say go to your Doc. However, this is not FDA approved like the gum and the patch. That said, maybe do a lower mg than you would normally smoke when you vape until you can talk it over with your doc. I am convinced, though... that lack of FDA info may make some docs either not want to recommend it (or be all for it based on whats known so far) or totally advise against it. I guess it just really depends on the biochemistry of the individual. I am a biology major I am not completely full of crap, I just believe in the scientific method. The scientific method is not foolproof, so if smoking while on birth control (assuming you are young and without any other pre-existing conditions) risks are minimal, then I dont see why you would be concerned with vaping risks. This provides a little of the struggle of the switch, but also really addresses why, and my favorite on the third page addresses it in depth it is a must-read about the chemicals in analog smoke. Going from 4000 chemicals in cigarettes to I dont even know, A FEW? is at least 1000 if not more times better for ya.

Read, Read, Read all you can then jump in, the water is fine. You can't possibly purchase the perfect device the first time. Be ready for experimenting a little, it will come together. Look at the polls where almost EVERYONE has quit analogs completely. We're not making this up, nothing in it for us.

I'm glad there are people out here to talk to about this because anyone I've tried to tell about this just thinks I'm crazy! My sister just says if I want to quit, I should just quit. Guess some people don't understand that it's hard to stop doing something that you've done for 15+ years!

I have not ordered from Cignot, but I believe they are very reputable company. I would start with a small amount of PG based liquid. A small percentage of people cannot tolerate PG that well. If this is the case, then use VG based liquid. Or buy a small amount of each kind and see what you like best. I personally like PG based liquids better. However, you do get more vapor with Vg based liquids and they are thicker and a bit sweeter.

I prefer a combination of PG and VG to get the best of both worlds.

2) VG vaporizes at a lower temperature
3) VG produces better vapor
4) VG is somewhat sweeter

Because of the above...

1) VG does not wick quite as well
2) VG may gunk up your atomizer more quickly
3) VG produces a somewhat cooler vapor which may reduce throat hit

I haven't purchased liquid from cignot as of yet...I do know that they sell ecopure which is supposed to be very clean as far as juice goes and others reccomend it highly..I havent heard a single bad thing about cignot either...alot of good stuff actually (they won a vapy award) stellar and super fast shipping...I was going to get my initial 510 kit from them but ended up going for something a little cheaper..never got around to ordering from them then..
As for the PG vs VG debate...that's pretty much a personal choice really...me personally I prefer PG unless there's a sensitivity to it..for me is the more known of 2 unknowns..

Using a 510 myself. Overall very happy with it, doubly-so once I did the spring modification to the carts; every hit is feels like a fresh-filled cart now.

As far as Cignot goes, absolutely love them. When I first started a couple months back I had a few questions which they quickly replied to. Since then they're my regular supplier for everything. Very quick order turnaround; I usually get a shipping confirmation e-mail within minutes after ordering, complete with USPS tracking number. (One or two orders took a little longer than expected to arrive, but that's the USPS for you, especially when one order was around Christmas.)

Nothing but rave reviews here and on their site, well deserved.

When you first get your PV kit order both PG and VG and see what you like better. In my case I am fine with the PG and made an all PG order for juice from cignot. (which arrived very fast)

My sister just says if I want to quit, I should just quit. Guess some people don't understand that it's hard to stop doing something that you've done for 15+ years!

If you take the "plunge" explain that this is a lifestyle change. Explain that you are only quitting ciggerettes and have no plans on "quitting" any time soon. That way its on -your- terms when you quit vaping or lower your nic dose.
