Hey guys and gals. I'm Nick. Been smoking for 15+ years about a pack a day. My girlfriend smokes way too much too. So about a year ago we got cape pens and juice and all the works. But I fell off because I heard that some flavorings were toxic. Hypocritical huh?, since a pack of cigarettes is probably the worst thing you can put in your body. Anyway, since then, I've spoken to quite a few people who have quit cigarettes through vaping. I feel like cigs are killing me and I need to quit so I'm trying it again. I don't want to get turned off to vaping by the potentially dangerous chemicals, so I found on the net that some flavoring are "safer" than others. My plan was to mix some vg with some favors from perfumers apprentice and go with it. Is it really that simple to diy? Am I on the right track? Thanks for any input and hope to learn a lot here!

Cowtown, USA. Where the West begins.
It's really that simple in the abstract. Doing a good job is harder, and takes practice. Accurate measurements are critical. Unless you are allergic to PG, I do not recommend 100% VG juices as they are hard to wick. 30/70 or 20/80 is much easier to deal with. You can find juice calculators on the internet that are useful. And you'll find all the guidance you need over in then DIY forum. Good luck and welcome to the board.

Welcome to ECF!!!

Personally, Before I dove into DIY, I would go to a couple local Vape shops and do some sampling and figure out what types of flavors you like. From what I understand, DIY can be a bit of trial and error, and for me getting off of cigarettes would have been much more difficult if I didn't have at least some juice that was enjoyable that I could get easily.

Either way, best of luck to you!!!

Wow thanks for the super fast reply supertrkr! Looks like I'm at the right place for good info! The DIY forums is actually what made me join the forum. Ive read through some of the threads that seemed would be helpful in my situation. That's actually why I decided on VG. Another reason I stopped vaping the first time and went back to combustible tobacco is because, to my surprise, vaping makes me cough! Whereas, I could smoke a pack of cigs a day and not cough at all. So I've read that some people's throats react negatively to PG. am I right in interpreting that?

Way to go bruh..:)
Since i was smoker bfore,so i highly recommnd you to start diy your own liquid.

Some of the things that you need to b prepared..some of the ideas/techniques from others may work well with you but some just dont. These whole process requires time, effort, patience and experience.
Regardless how 'particular' and 'careful' you try to avoid for error:banana: Even for myself,im still learning and still make 'silly' mistakes.

I cant list the whole thing here but what ever you do and brew,IF it taste good to you and for your own use (unless if it harmful :p or u insist to get feedbck on the taste), please ignore others -ve review because personally, this is some how can demotivate you to continue to produce liquid in YOUR OWN WAY. Listen to opinions for IMPROVISION..

Eg : some will advise on 20% flavoring, some 25%..find the best % that work with ya..:)

Just my 2 cent..

Thanks jjatl. But how do I know that the "natural and artificial flavors" in some juices at the local shops are not toxic?

I think that the general consensus is that even though there may be some ingredients in E-Juice that are unhealthy, they are still much less harmful than cigarettes.

I am no expert but that is what I understand to be true from the research that I have done.

Here is link showing test results from one of the big juice manufacturers: VapeWild Test Results

In my opinion, getting off of the cigarettes should be the number one goal. If your research tells you that there are healthier ways to make juice, then making my own juice would be my second goal.

jjatl, I don't know how to quote your post but you are absolutely right. I just need to get off cigs ASAP and then figure out the best way to vape. Ok so let me rephrase my initial post (for now) ...

I have two eleaf isticks, black for me, pink for my girl. I have a peakomizer(?) screw top thing (canister) and need to get another top container for the other istick. I want to quit smoking. I am a hobbyist (r/c cars and reef aquariums) and if I take this as a hobby, from what I've seen so far, I can definitely go to the extreme with this as a hobby and that will get me off cigs. Anyway... What's the best juice for us? Diy? Vg/pg ratio? My girl likes fruity, I like tobacco or mellow (like light coconut). Importantly though, I cough when I smoke what I have (uncle junk's Jon Wayne genius e-juice) and most others that I've tried. Who are some good online vendors for equipment and juice? Where should I start?

Can't thank you all who are replying enough. Seems like a cool community. I hope to learn a ton about this and give back.

Hi and welcome. Don't forget about the nicotine you're going to need. And mix it carefully with calculated amounts.

I typically buy from VapeWild. They have decent flavors and I generally like what I buy. Prices can't be beat.
You have to experiment with flavors and nicotine levels. What nic level did your juice contain when it made you cough?
VG is generally smooth and produces more cloud (vapor). PG gives more of a throat hit. I usually go for more VG (65VG/35PG). Good balance for me.
There are 2 kinds of inhaling techniques. Lung hitting, and mouth to lung hitting. Mouth to lung is what you do with regular cigs. Take a drag into your mouth, inhale, exhale. Lung inhale is direct to lung inhaling, pull the vapor directly into your lungs, then exhale.
I used to do mouth to lung when I first started because it was more like regular smoking. The throat hit will be controlled by the amount of VG and nicotine in the juice. Too much of either can make you cough.
Drinks lots of water when starting...it helps.
Hope some of this helps.
