Hello all! My first Reo Grand arrived today, been vaping for almost two years and have heard about them for ever; finally pounced. It's not new, traded for one of my mechs, and it came with an Igo. Its draw was waaayyy too tight so I opened it up to 1/16" and it's better.

Put a 1.1ohm micro coil on it and, while it's good, I'm used to vaping at lower ohms. I know the sub kits are about to come out, but I'm curious how low I can safely take this thing with my Sony VTC5. Obviously won't come close to pushing the limits of the battery, but concerned about the spring. I've been told .7 or .8 is fine and on the coil thread I see people using .5 ohm coils with 26ga kanthal. I prefer 24ga and 26ga on all my drippers, so I'm hoping to hear I can wrap a .6 or .7 on this thing as is. Got a BF Cyclone on the way from Mt Baker. Igos just don't do it for me.

Only issue so far is that it tastes like it needs to be squonked even after a couple hits. Is there a trick to the cotton placement? Or amount? I'm using a decent amount, similar to my normal setups. Wondering if Reos tend to like more or less...

Any feedback and tips are very welcome. Looking forward to spending some time in Reoville! I've been a regular over at Nicoticket for some time and Reos (and you folks) are all so highly regarded over there I am really looking forward to this! See ya around :)

Very nice looking REO, welcome! I just moved in myself, some great folks and beautiful scenery here. I'm using an RM2 with a .9 coil and find that I need to squonk every second or third draw. In general, I have found that less cotton is better.
It is my understanding that you don't want to go below .7 on the REO now, but when the SO kits come out anything is fair game:)

You can safely got to .7 ohms. somewhere around .6 you start running the risk of melting the button, this depends on how long a hit you take and if your contacts are oxidized. Somewhere around .4 you' drop the spring.

Flat top batteries will work but are more likely to spark and arc which leads to oxidation which leads to more arcing. Watch the maintenance video on Rob's site. You'll probably need to clean, file and noalox weekly. You should get some noalox to put on the positive contact and bit on top of the battery to stop this from occurring.

EDIT: almost forgot CONGRATS! and welcome to Reoville.

That's one handsome REO!

I've run .65 with no problems. As long as your battery can handle it, it shouldn't be an issue. Until I get my hands on a sub-ohm kit, I won't go any lower. Honestly, I don't see a need for anything lower than that, but some will. I'm mostly looking forward to less voltage drop, longer battery life and no arcing.

Be sure to put a dab of Noalox on the positive terminal of your battery to prevent arcing.

Thanks for the warm welcome! I was sure to drop some naolox on there before I got going :) The Sony VTC5 seems like a great, snug fit; can't imagine needing the extra length of a button top, but we'll see. I'll go a few more rounds on this build and then drop it a little lower, it's definitely not what I'm used to up at 1.1ohms.

Also, less cotton next time then as well. Plenty of room in there still for air right now, but certainly way more than an 1/8". So nice to be in uncharted territory with a vape device! Urge to tinker more is back.

Dreadymark, welcome to Reoville. Nice looking REO. Funny you should mention the Nicoticket thread. I hang here all the time, but I visited the Nicoticket thread to say how much I liked his Creme Brûlée, and I got the biggest, friendliest welcome ever. I was so impressed. Besides the REO forum, it's the nicest thread on ECF.

Congrats on the Reo. You'll find what works and you'll love it. I haven't used an Igo yet. The RM2s work well and the Cyclones.

I personally don't like cotton but it does need room to expand and hold juice. I've been using the 2mm Ready-wick at RBA supplies with 1.5mm id spaced microcoil, 7 wraps 28 guage at .9 to 1 ohm. Works great for me but everyone's different. Short tails work best.

Dready, that's awesome news brother. Congrats :)

Building a setup that requires frequent squonking is really what you want. It's great that you have to do it every hit or two because that introduces fresh juice to the build. My setups are the same. I'm squonking like crazy. I like it. It'll become a thoughtless act in no time. 3 second press every hit or two. But those will be fantastic, full and flavorful hits.

If you were to build something that held more juice between squonks, it'd likely get precooked and loose its freshness.

Never underestimate the power of the squonk.

Oh, and here's the fat lady singing you a cover of David Bowies "let's dance". She wants you and a friend to join her for a vape when she's thru and doesn't mind if you squonk every hit.

jkais3r should be along shortly to let you know what she has on tap :)

Welcome to Reoville Dreadymark. It sounds to me that you'll be getting the upgraded contacts when they become available soon....hopefully...lol. Less is more with cotton wicks. Its good when you are new to squonking to pull your drip tip and watch the juice flow into your atty. THis gives you a good starting point for how long to squonk. You'll soon have it down to an art. Garbage pickup is Wednesday in Reoville. Don't place it on the pavement though as it can impede traffic from vehicles. Here's your shiny new badge. If you wear it to the coffee shop you can get a 50% discount on sesame bagels before 6:30 AM on Saturday mornings.

I think I've seen you before. Are you the guy that lives under the Reoville bridge?
