Welcome and keep up the good work. I'd just like to say do not be in too big of a rush to lower your nicotine level. Easy doe's it and all the very best to you.:banana::banana:

Yeah, I will eventually drop to 12mg, and stay at that level for awhile, as recently I only managed to smoke 10 cigarettes a day, so staying at 18mg, for 2-3 weeks or even more, is kinda of an over kill, at least for me.
I think 18mg is great during the very first 3-5 days, when your nicotine levels from all the latest cigarettes you smoke start to go down, and you get sudden cravings.
But I think, after 3-5 days of just vaping, and with no occasional cigarette at all, in between, the transition gets even more easier.
Even taking deep drags with the 6mg juice, and vape as a regular smoker does, after a coffee or a meal, gets my cigarettes cravings away.
It's just versatile, really.

Sounds like you have figured it out a lot better than I had when I first started vaping.

Bear in mind, everyone is different. It took me a year to completely switch to vaping. Some people stop smoking after their first vape. I started on 24mg. Quickly went to 18. Then it took me three years to get down to 8. Some folks stay at a high level, others drop down rapidly.

You will be able to tell if you are dropping the level too fast. You find yourself chain vaping, or start thinking about cigarettes. Nothing wrong with wanting to lose the nicotine, but if you cut down or cut it out too soon you risk relapsing back to the smokes.

Good luck

Yeah man, I hear you. ;)
To be honest, I don't think i'll ever get back to smoking again.
It did caused me more damage than any good.
It gave me anxiety, lethargy, lack of interest to certain things of life, and many other negative things.
So, no more, for me.
Besides, this Winter, thanks to the smokes, I got the flu 3 times (no, not the Corona virus, thankfully). So, no more.
Ditching the smokes completely is already a good step, and change your mindset from being a smoker to a non-smoker, definitely helps a lot.
It's been 72 hours, already, since my last cigarette. I'm using 18mg throughout the day, and 6mg before going to bed.
I'm finding that I no longer chain-vape the 6mg like I did, when I was trying out vaping. Since when I was experimenting vaping I was still smoking 10 cigs a day, probably that craving/anticipation to smoke something is already gone.
Besides, i'm keeping myself occupied, by reading books, playing games, listen to music and do graphic art on Photoshop. That also definitely helps, as well.
Like I said, i'm not planning in cutting down the Nicotine so fast.
I will stay with the 18mg for a couple of weeks, and when I go down to 12, i'm planning on staying on each level for at least a month or so.
I also have a few bottles of 9mg juice. So I will reduce my Nicotine very gradually: 18,12,9,6,3, and I will then switch to the sub-ohm coils (0.4ohm) when I hit 6mg, so I won't chain-vape and stay on the lower levels for a long time.
So far, i'm very happy with my Aspire Zelos kit. It literally has a very good MTL that replicates a real cigarette very well.
I'm very happy with this kit, so far. :)

I continued to use 18mg for more than 8-years. And, I don't see a problem with that.
But, in the past year, with higher wattage and such, I am finding that lower nicotine levels are just as satisfying. Fact is, with today's devices I felt a NEED to reduce the nicotine content of my eLiquid.
No doubt, a lot of it is a matter of how much a person's 'addiction' is chemical vs. habit (hand to mouth). I think mine was big on the hand to mouth, and that I could've decreased my nic level years ago without any problem. I don't regret that I didn't though. Just so much more healthy without the SMOKE.
I have no plans to eliminate nicotine.

Yeah, I read that 6mg or 3mg is just as satisfying on a sub-ohm high wattage device.
That's why, when I will eventually get down to those levels, I will definitely go sub-ohm and DL.
MTL is great for higher nicotine levels, as it does replicate the same TH you would get from a Marlboro Red or even a cigar (depending on the dosage).
When I was using the Nicotine gum, I found out that I missed more the hand-to-mouth habit than the nicotine itself.
Some say that having just sugar-free gum, or even sucking on a straw, will help you with that. Tried, and it didn't worked at all.
That's why, when I quitted the gum, I went back to the smokes.
Of course. I did overloaded my body with the nicotine gum (it's 2/4mg written in the box, but you actually get 6/10mg out from a single gum and way more faster than from vaping....and there's no real working way, that I know of, that you can lower your nicotine levels), so I used the smokes, for awhile, to compensate with the cravings.
I had to put a very rigid limit on myself, to try to not to smoke more than 10 smokes a day. And it worked.
Although, going back to smoke means that you will become, once again, addicted. So i'm using the vape to get through the withdrawals.
Eventually, when I will get to 0, I will probably vape some flavored juice just for the taste. And not for the nicotine.
As for the rest, I think swapping the smokes for the vaping is way more healthy than continue to smoke.
That's for sure.

I don't see myself ever going from MTL to DTL.
And, I'm not strictly sub-ohm either. I've still got (lots of) coils in the 1.8-1.6 ohm range that I find perfectly acceptable at 10-20 watts. I just cut down on my levels when using the higher wattage. Had to, my 18mg eLiquid was about to make me ill.
I wish you luck. Sounds like you're determined to get the monkey off your back. I think you had more of a chemical addiction than I did, although I was smoking about 30-cigarettes a day up 'til the day I quit.

Just want to say you are doing great! Very good approach (with the nic levels) Take your time and make sure you have a backup device (anything actually)

Yeah, i'm doing great, so far.
Been off the cigarettes for a good week, now.
I had a few minor problems during the first 2 days with the 18mg (felt a little bit panicky and dizzy). But, on the third day, I was already doing ok.
I'm planning on dropping to 12mg next week. As I noticed that even though I vape sparingly the 18mg (only in the morning and after meals), after a couple of puffs my mouth and tongue burns like I ate too much pepper. So I definitely need to drop to 12mg.
I already got another Aspire kit as a backup device, and bought a pack of 1.8ohm coils as well. ;)
So i'm all good, in case of an emergency.
It also helps that due to this virus outbreak i'm staying at home as much as possible, as recommended by our government. So I literally don't think about cigarettes at all.
I'm pretty sure that going down to 12mg wouldn't be that much of a problem. And if there going to be any sort of withdrawal effects, I feel they will be very minimal.
I don't even chain-vape the 6mg anymore, in the evening. And when I vape only 6mg, I don't feel any cravings for the 18mg at all.
Guess once you start vaping, the withdrawals are only psychological than physical. That's what I noticed.

I successfully made the transition to 12mg, after being on the 18mg for over 3 weeks.
Been on the 12mg for a good full week, now. And i'm already planning on going down to the lower levels, 9 (maybe), 6 and then 3.
Even though I don't chain vape or vape all day, the higher levels (18mg, and now the 12mg) definitely make me sick, on certain days.
With the 18mg, on the last week, I definitely got bad nausea and headaches in the mornings. While with the 12mg, I found, in these past 2 days, that it's literally making me a little more agitated than usual. So I guess it's time to finally go down to the lower levels.
I read that some went from 12mg to 6mg, by skipping the 9mg. I have 3 bottles of 10ml/each of 9mg juice.
I was wondering if I should go down to 9mg, first, and then move down to the 6mg. Or just go down directly to 6mg and then, after awhile, to 3mg.
What you suggest, people?
Be safe out there, please.

First of all welcome to ECF
I think the same as @Boudica and @classwife ,and in my honest opinion you seem a bit to worried about your nicotine intake.
I think that your main focus for now should be to go with what you feel is right, with what your body tells you.

Your main focus for now would be to find a suitable number of nicotine be 12,9 or 6 or whatever feels right and stick with it for awhile, dont get stressed out about your nicotine intake.

Nicotine by itself isnt bad and the most important thing for you at this stage is to get used to vaping and get rid of smoking cigarettes for good.

I was the same as you when i started, making plans in how i was going to play around with my nicotine amounts, when and how and honestly that just stressed me out.
Friend who owns the vape shop where i live (hope he can open soon,i miss going to visit him and talk about stuff) just told me to relax and enjoy the vape.
Whatever amount of nicotine or type of atomizer that would make me forget all about the nasty habit of smoking cigarettes.

For now just use whatever amount of nicotine makes you feel good and not makes you crave a cigarette, like @classwife said this is a marathon not a sprint.

To be honest, I haven't had a single craving for a cigarette for over a month, now.
But i'm coming off from Nicotine gum and the occasional cigarette I had in between. So, the Tobacco craving is literally gone.
On a side note, due to this lockdown, I don't even have access to a Tobacco shop at all. So that also helps in forgetting about cigarettes.
My plan with vaping was to finally cut out the Nicotine, as well, and be finally Nicotine-free. And maybe just vape for flavor, once in awhile.
Being on the highest doses (high, at least for me) really helped in this process. But I know that this is the time to drop from 12mg to a more suitable lower level.
The 12mg wasn't that harsh, when I started a week ago. But when it starts to burn my throat and making me a little dizzy and nauseaous, I know that's my body telling me to drop to a more tolerable level.
I might vape a little more the very first 2 days of my transition, like I did when dropping from 18mg to 12mg. But i'm pretty sure that I will eventually get used to either the 9 or 6mg just fine, in the end.

Many thanks guys for all your help and good advices.
Please be safe.
