Rehoboth limits smoking on beach, boardwalk

REHOBOTH BEACH — Effective May 15, smoking will be banned on the Rehoboth Beach boardwalk and bandstand area, in city parks and limited to designated smoking areas on the beach.

The city also hopes to get $10,000 through a grant from the American Lung Association. Mills said he sent in a proposal to the association, which was tentatively approved for up to $15,000.

The ban will not include e-cigarettes, which Mayor Sam Cooper argued was in line with the purpose of the proposal.
"The premise of this ordinance fits that. There's no litter, you use it over and over again, and there's no smoke," Cooper said.

There's also no burning tip. I'm sure the boardwalk is fire-resistant...but I have this thing about people walking around with burning cigarettes on a wooden walkway.

I must have looked at this thread at least 100 times today. I'm waiting for the post that says the ALA declined to give them the $15k unless they include e cigs.

Wow... I just got two surprises! This legislation and looking at my post count to say what will follow... and I've become a PV Master! Funny, I didn't notice it because I don't feel any different. Anyway, was gonna say now that I know, I've got somewhere around 3,000 posts and still don't know the best way to read the boards so I often miss the legislative news unless it just happens to get bumped up on "Today's Posts." If someone can tell me a better way where I wouldn't miss so much, I would appreciate it.

Edit: Oh, and GREAT!!!!!!!! news. I wish more politicians would be like him. Sorry, forgot I was gonna say that. A little rattled over the PV Master thing.
