For those of you that haven't seen my posts before I started vaping about a week before Christmas. I started with a BLU kit and using that I was able to cut my pack a day habit in half. After reading a lot on these forums and watching a lot of youtube videos, I decided that I needed to upgrade. I bought myself a couple ego twists and an entire slew of accessories.

My intention with vaping was not to completely stop smoking cigarettes. I loved smoking, and I wanted to continue to do it. I just wanted to use vaping to cut back and save myself some money. After receiving and using all of my vaping supplies I naturally began to smoke fewer cigarettes. Before I knew it, I was down to 5 a day, then the next week, it was more like 3 a day, then 2. For the past week, I've been smoking 1 cigarette a day when I first wake up. I've noticed that with each passing day the taste of the cigarette was getting worse and worse. For the last few days, it was getting to the point where I wasn't enjoying it at all.

My last cigarette was Wednesday morning at about 9:00am. I decided that I am finished. I simply have no desire to do it anymore. I have been smoke free for a little over 48 hours as I type this and I'm not looking back. I think this is remarkable considering I had no intentions of quitting when I picked up my first pv.

I know some people ditch the cigarettes completely the second they get their first pv, but from my experience I almost think it's better to keep smoking when you are starting to vape. I will explain. Like I said, the cigarettes began to taste awful as I smoked fewer and fewer of them as the days went by. In past quit attempts (without vaping) I would always have this memory of smoking cigarettes, and it was a pleasant memory. That's what ultimately caused my failure. I always MISSED smoking. But as it is right now, I don't have pleasant memories from cigarettes. Looking back over the last two weeks or so, all I can think of is how bad those cigarettes tasted. And how bad they made me feel (physically) afterwards. I think that this alone will keep me from wanting to revisit the smoking lifestyle.

I still have an unopened pack of Camel Lights. I don't really want to throw them away. But I have a plan. I am going to put the pack in a sandwich sized ziplock bag. Then into a tupperware container with water. Then I will freeze it. So that pack of cigarettes will be encased in a solid block of ice. It will stay in my freezer as a reminder. If I ever begin to forget the awful taste I've experienced over the past couple weeks, and feel the urge to smoke, I will either have to work really hard to get at them, or wait a long time for it to melt. This will give me time to reconsider what I'm doing, so there will be no split second impulse decisions. I've heard that some people do this with their credit cards.

So yeah, I'll stop rambling now. I just wanted share my personal milestone. Happy vaping everybody!

I smoked the first 4 days I vaped, just a few here and there. Not only did they taste like rhino rear, I only let myself smoke them when doing things like taking out the trash or cleaning the litterbox. No good smoking memory comes from that!

Congrats, it only gets better from here. Those cigarettes will taste like crap whether you encase them in ice or not. I've tried a cigarette a few times since I quit over 2 years ago and they are horrid. I can't get past two drags without stamping it out, and the smell on my hands, hair, and clothes from just those two drags was intolerable.

I like the insight of the cigarette memory switching to a negative vs cold turkey memories of missing something good.

Vaping is a far superior way to get your nic in every way. I wish it were that way for every smoker that tries vaping.

That's great! Congratulations! I was the same... I didn't want to quit smoking when I started vaping. I had no intention of quitting at all. I liked smoking! I just wanted to cut back, save some money and hopefully stop coughing so much.
I was however one of those that took a few puffs off my PV and knew I could quit the stinkies if I just went for it. I was afraid if I didn't do it right then, I never would and might just talk myself into sticking with the smokes. So... different things work for different people. :) (I haven't smoked in just over a year.) I have saved money and that awful cough... totally gone.

I love the ice idea, too! lol

Reading the first part of your post got me thinking on analogs and then I started thinking about how I want one. Then again I just had dinner. I too had no intention of quitting and each time I smoked I told myself how nasty it was. I still get occasional cravings, but by now it's more of the habit being broken than anything else.

Thanks for all the positive responses everybody. I have now been cigarette free for 63 hours. Yes this quit is so new, that I'm counting in hours. Not even a single desire for one. I haven't even been vaping more than usual. My last semi successful quit was back in 2008. I quit for 2 months. Every day of that two months was hard, and obviously, I ultimately failed. I do not see a similar fate in this situation. I'm not saying that I'll never smoke a cigarette again. I might end up having one here and there while at a party or something. I'm not sure. But one thing is sure. I'm done with everyday smoking. Even every week smoking. I feel awesome.

Last night while out drinking with old friends in a smoky bar I bummed an analog from a friend. Haven't had one in a while so I figured it was safe to have one. I still miss smoking sometimes, or missed it. The thing tasted horrible. Not good, heavy, thick, burnt, nasty. Today I Still feel like I taste it, and sitting here thinking about how I used to smoke 20 if I went out....disgusting. That one analog made me so glad I quit.

Congrats to you. You'll feel better everyday!
