What's particularly astonishing about this case is the lopsided nature of the vote (8-2), and the fact that the majority voted against establishing a city council committee to even look into the possiblity of treating vaping as smoking.

The ban was proposed by Findlay City Health Department personnel and a pulmonary specialist last week, but a majority of council hesitated to even form a committee to further discuss the idea.
Third Ward Councilman Ron Monday, charged with polling council members individually, on Tuesday said eight were against creating a committee and two were in favor.

When asked if council should, as a whole, appeal to state legislators to push for e-cigarette regulation at the state level, four council members said yes, five said no, and one didn’t care, Monday said.

I'm from Ohio, too, albeit not near Findlay....my favorite part was the last line...

Health professionals here were hoping Findlay would be a trailblazer, although there is not yet scientific evidence showing that so-called “vaping,” and its second-hand emissions, can be harmful.

Likely, he didn't know. Actually it's more about Findlay gov. itself - doesn't mention parties in the listings. You have to hunt, but I was fairly certain of this in that Findlay is about the closest a Republican candidate can get to Toledo. University of Findlay hosted Palin and Anne Romney. There have been exceptions to that, McCain, of course, for reasons I wouldn't have to explain to many here, but it's just a general observation. As I've said before, basically Toledo, because of many factors, is a suburb of Detroit.
