Someone ignorant enough to not know throwing a lit cig into brush would start a fire is also probably ignorant enough to believe that people will believe it was an E Cig at fault.

...and there is the rub, and the problem is, a direct challenge is likely to hit a defensive wall. Where as if an oblique approach is taken

Corrales is proposing a ban on electronic cigarettes in the bosque over this. It came up in the their city council meeting last night. They even admitted that there was no causal link showing that an e cigarette caused the fire. They are still considering the ban anyway. Apparently their fire department did some testing and found that, oh no, if you really really really really try hard, you can get an e cigarette hot enough to require gloves for handeling. Since I do use the bosque sometimes, even behind corrales, I may just have to show up to the next meeting where this is on the agenda.

Yeah... What the ...?
The explanation is very illogical. The part I have the hardest time with is that the e-cig created uncontrollable flames so quickly. While it may be possible, it's highly unlikely.
Maybe there's follow up reports explaining more??
Too bad the real world isn't like the CSI where they do an insanely thorough, high-tech investigation to get down to exactly what happened.

I say we lobby for MythBusters to investigate.

Honestly? He dropped an e-cig and bent down to pick it up and the flames just drove them back in seconds. The worst part is that they go on to say it could have happened this way. As if it's likely that it happened this way or that it did happen this way. What are the odds? Ten billion to one? If he accidentally lost it and walked away from it, the odds might be slightly better but they are not even claiming that.

Reminds me of the movie, Angels in the Outfield. Every time one of the two kids suggests something very unlikely might happen (e.g., the Angels winning the pennant) and someone responds negatively, they look at each other, shrug, and say, "It could happen."

That's become one of my husband's and my favorite things to say. That's followed by flapping our arms up and down like we are flying. (Mimics what the kids do to let the Angels' coach know that the Angels sent from heaven are present to help the team win the game.)

Do it...point out that sticks rubbed together can get really hot too and ask if they plan on banning them. :)
