I have been vaping for about 1.5 months now and I have and use a spinner with a protank3 and an MVP with a KFL+. Both of these have side mounted firing buttons and are comfortable to hold and fire.
How does one hold and fire a mod with a bottom mounted button? That arrangement seems awkward to me.
I typically hold higher up on the mod with my thumb and index finger with my middle and ring finger slightly wrapped around the body for support and fire with the side of my little finger around the second knuckle.
I like to balance it between my index and thumb and fire it dead center. I picked up this technique because I have a launcher clone and it has a recessed button.
It's awkward if you have a crappy button which is often the case, particularly with clones. I have a Nemi clone which is awful, I switched to magnets and it still sucks. If you plan on buying a Mech Mod make sure you do your research.

I came from eGo's too, and bottom buttons seemed awkward to me as well. Now they're my preferred switch, and in my opinion it's the most comfortable button you can have. It's a bit trickier with a recessed button, but the plunger-style buttons like the Chi_You feel much more natural than any side button I've tried.
As a bonus, if you play some kind of instrument (I play piano), you can occasionally put a nice and tough spring in a bottom button and it'll help strengthen your pinky and ring finger (which are the weakest).
