I’ve had my smok alien for almost 2 months now and have not had any problems until today. I decided to switch the coil because it was burnt so I put a new one in and as always I let the juice soak the coil first. When I pressed the firing button a very loud popping sound happened and it burned juice really quick for a split second and then it stopped burning the juice into vapour at all and it was just silent. Every haul I took after the same thing happened. I tried tightening the coil and tried tightening the tank to the mod because I thought it might be a weak connection but it’s still acting up. I have no idea if it’s the coil or the mod or the batteries or what... any suggestions?

No markings you say?
Does it look like this?
Taking a stab in the dark I would say that the coil is borked, try a new one. Are you getting any error messages and what resistance is the mod reading?

Yes those are the batteries I’m using and they still look like I just bought them. I haven’t received any error messages yet and the mod says it’s 0.387 ohms

It might be worth grabbing a torx-t6 and undoing the 4 screws on the top of the mod to check out your 510 connection. I recall a post with an issue where the Alien mods were misreading the resistance of coils which would account for your symptoms and it was because the little gold 510 pin was off centre from the spring inside the mod.

The T8 coils are rated at 0.15ohm so that's already off. Either that or the coil is stuffed. If it happens with another I'd consider having a peek under the mod top cover.

Okay I’m going to try a new coil and if that doesn’t fix it then that’s a good option

The TFV8 Q2 is 0.4 ohms, if thats what OP is using?
Try a new coil before taking anything apart.

OP mentioned it was the T8 coil. Definitely try another coil.
But don't worry if/when it's time to take the top off, the inside of those Aliens will surprise you with how basic they are. Hah.

You fried the coil. Either it wasn't primed fully or your applied wattage might be the culprit. There are also reports of poor QC on Smok's coils.

I run the Baby T8 coils on my Alien kit and it is reading it at 0.17Ω, within reason to me. Did you take your reading before or after you fired it?

And when you start that new coil, start out around 40-44 watts for the first few hits. Won't give you much if any flavor or cloud, but helps break it in. Then move wattage up 5 watts or so, taking a few hits. Then repeat until you get to a satisfactory vape. Just because the coils are rated "best at 60-80 watts" doesn't mean you have to go that high. I'm fine with mine in the 54-62 watt range.

I'd agree with others that something happened on first fire with your coil that has burned it. Start over.

With that said, has this happened before? I'm wondering if it's a faulty coil and/or not enough priming for that coil in particular, but it's toast (the coil). It would be helpful to know if your resistance reading was before or after you fired it, certainly.

I suppose I could envisage a scenario where your 510 connection needs attention and/or there might be something going on with the mod itself, but using the "easiest solution first" method, I'd clean the tank (very thoroughly!) and then replace the coil first....

Good luck,

Anna
