Here's my first go around at a copper tube mod. All mechanical, 18650 battery. I used a 510 connector from MV and took out the center pin and replaced it with a brass rod (the ones used for doors) insulated by heat shrink and the existing rubber insulator. Filled the battery side of the connector with flexible epoxy and its good to go. The top cap slides down and the brass rod makes contact with the battery. there is a spring between the battery and top cap. Only took a couple hours, not bad for my first try lol..... Good thing i bought extra material because I have a kick i haven't tried out yet.

One question, is it ok to use IMR's or should I use protected batts?? If IMR's are ok to use how will I know when they are around 3.2v?

Nice job, they've been making copper mods for a long time now, the original = The Copper. Also known as the Hex I believe.

On your IMR question surely you can and should run IMR's just because there safer and won't vent like a non IMR, you can tell when they get low by the way your unit will put out less vapor , you should pull then out around 3.5 3.6v and recharge though, not run them lower. A cheap volt meter is something everyone should have to check there batts voltage as well, you can pick one up for $10-$15

It depends.

Here's a 2A drain test, pretty much what you'll need for a 1.8-2Ω atty.

I'm a big Sanyo fan I luv the performance of the red 2600's, but if you want protection these work almost as well.

2 PCS Sanyo UR18650FM 2600mAh Protected Battery [Sanyo UR18650FM] - $17.88 : Led Flashlight-International Outdoor Store

Pretty much of a no-brainer for me, the AW IMR has an edge for the first ~375mAh (big deal) then it's all down hill. This also shows the folly of using IMR 18650s in a stacked/series VV mod. The Panasonic 2250 high drains that Orbitronic calls IMRs fare almost the same as the AW although they manage to make eek out an extra ~125mAh before losing ground to the Sanyos.

Good vendor BTW.
