first attempt on making coil on Patriot and mvp2(photos)

So here is my first attempt on making a single coil on my Patriot used on mvp2. At first the meter in my mvp2 showed 2 ohms (my goal was 1.8) then after heating it up and used a tweezer it was showing 8.0,7.4.5.3 and it kept changing. After i vaped the experience was bad i had a massive throat hit with almost no vape. The indication of resistance showed 2.4 after i took a few hits and stayed there.

Any insights as to what i am doing wrong? Maybe i used to little cotton or didnt loop my coil well?

Is that a nano coil? What size tool did you use to wrap your coil around? What gauge wire did you use?

sorry susan forgot to add those info. I used a 28 kanthal as for the tool well i used my mini screwdriver that came with my patriot. i will put a photo of it but dont know its dimensions. It was an attempt for a micro single coil. First day on rebuilding so bare with me

It appears that you may have a short some where. Check for a loose connection and/or coil is not touching either post for starters.

Varying resistance is usually an indication of a loose connection, often the screws.

I think you need longer wicking, so the whole bottom is covered. And maybe block the air holes in the cap that are next to the unused portion of the deck, so you're not drawing fresh air across the place where there's no heat?

In addition I would get that coil as close the air hole as possible. Hardly any vapor and massive throat hit are two symptoms of not having your air hole lined up with the coil.

It also looks like the right side of the coil/wick is heating up more than the other based off of the discoloration, which would sound like a hot spot or to much cotton and the cotton burning. With large coils like that, if they dont heat evenly from the inside out like that, that can happen.

I would suggest making a new coil around 1.5 - 1.8 so its smaller (or use 30 guage wire @ 2ish ohms) and like was said above, leaving the coil out closer to the airholes. when you re wick it, try to make the cotton as uniform as you can so if doesn't bunch up when you pull it through the coil and leaving enough wick off of the sides so you can try tucking the tails under the coil if you prefer. Also make sure that your screws are tight but not overly tight because it can snap thin wire.

It looks like a clean build for your first coil, good job! just need some more practice! (did you step your nic level down at all)

thnks for the input. as for the nicotine well i have been vaping for almost two weeks now and i use 12 mg nicotine. i used to smoke like 20gr of marlboro tobacco per day so i guess the 12mg of nic are pretty ok for me now.

The only reason I mentioned it is because when I started dripping, the flavor, vapor and throat hit all increased drastically. I did not like that much TH so I dropped my nic from 18 to 12 and then to 6 within a week.
