DIY day today.. First coil rebuild

I also used a toothpick to hold the coil in place while slipping on the insulator and pin. it wedges into the groove nicely to keep everything still and can be easily pulled out. Really don't know how that guy does it without. Oh, I already have 5 new coils, a few 0 Ohm disasters, and 3 new lots of different guages Kanthal on order lol ;-)

I use a straightened out paperclip and hold it with the silica and wrap around both. That keeps me from wrapping to tightly. Leaving the paperclip in until the legs are locked down works the same as your toothpick. :)

We all find our shortcuts:)

I've been using cotton wool for a wick, so after I pull the toothpick out, I roll the Cotton between my fingers and just thread it through.

that works too. I do micro coils on a 16 gauge blunt syringe needle. Leave the coil on the needle and use it the same way. Insert cotton after it is in place:)

Same principal many ways to get there.
