From the pics, how do you think my wicking is? Do you know any other styles?

bgohard1, I really don't know much about this part of it. I wick for my preference and that is not maximizing vapor. Here's how I wick the Trident (I should have dry burned it before I took that shot, LOL):

I don't use much cotton because I feel cotton doesn't move juice fast enough to give me a benefit from using a lot of it. But that setup is 0.5 ohms and is not going to win any competitions ;)

I suggest you watch some Rip Trippers videos and some of the other guys who know what they are doing. Then try a few different ways and see for yourself. It's really easy and quick to rewick, so it's not going to take you long.

There are other considerations too. The Trident has a fairly high lip around the deck. That means it holds 15 drops of juice and with my high coil placement (I know it looks like the coils are close to the deck, but that's just because we're looking down at the atty) I can still keep the coils out of the puddle.

Like they say, the devil's in the details.

it looks like the coil on the left is burning hotter, it may just be the picture. Does it light up faster?

Yeah it wasn't at first but seems to be doing that now. I think I'm going to make new coils. I'm good at the regular coils, this was just my first sleeper attempt. I'm just having issues with wicking

try pulling in some slack through the post from the cooler burning coil to lower the resistance a bit. I have done this with success to even coils out.

Sounds good man. I'll try that first when I get home tomorrow. Maybe that will save me from doing new coils

Thanks for the info

You prolly gonna need more airflow, and try less cotton unless you lower your ohms, plus take a look at this http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/showthread.php?p=12980967

I've never done one of these comps but I try to build myne to have lots of vapor for me its satisdying to see and taste.
Slightly off topic do they have diffrent catagories in these comps?
Like amp limits, number of coils, regulated and mech, and then of course unrestricted.. if they Dont they should lol

I just built a "sleeper coil" and I'm not seeing how it performs any different than 2 separate coils which don't have connection issues. Its nice not having the two ends sticking out of the center post, but it certainly was a challenge getting that second coil wrapped properly. I say focus on building perfect individual coils that are the exact same resistance and distance from the posts.

Do they really need to be microcoils? I notice a bump in flavor with them, but not necessarily vapor production. I'd go bigger diameter so you have more juice in the wick right inside the coil. 3/32" or 7/64" should be fine, I think 1/8" is overkill. If you are wicking with cotton, it should go through uncompressed and just fitting, not tight or loose. Line them up even with the air holes, pointing right at the center.

Oh yeah, and the air holes should be big enough that the draw is completely unrestricted for direct full lung inhales. 100% VG, 0 nic juice. Find an exhale speed that makes the clouds look biggest, this does matter. For me I find this to be medium-slow, enough to project the cloud without it getting too concentrated right in front of your face.

Other than that, fully charged 30+ amp batteries are a must. Same goes for pristine clean connections in your mod.

Good luck, and don't start a fire :thumb:

Thanks man! I'm gunna try all this tomorrow and I'll let you guys know how it goes. I'm guessing the 6 wraps on 2 individual coils of 24g will be good enough. I've got a purple 35a efest and vtc5.

Thanks again so much

I always get suckered into joining the cloud competitions even when I'm at a place with no intention to enter. First question always is what are the rules. No regulated device, 3.7 volt only, ohm limit etc.

Not trying to be the bearer of bad news but most people at this comp are prolly going to be in the 0.1 ohm range with reducers as their RDA top caps. With that many watts and a huge bore for a mouthpiece it's really easy to push 12+ feet of dense clouds with straight VG. I highly recommend going if you're into it though. You will learn more from seeing their equipment than a month of reading on here could do.

Yeah I don't expect to win, I'd like to though lol. I'd love to learn as much as I can from it and I'm just trying to have some fun vaping

Two coils now. Reading .18 ohms. Haven't tried it out yet tho. Should I try that noose wick even if the coil is on a 1/16 bit?
