First Coil Build Success!!!

I just bought a mech mod and posted a thread on advice for rba. Well after listening to everybodies advice, I ended up going with a kayfun clone. Being on a budget I ended up getting the cheapest one. It is a clone of the 3.1 called the Rocket V1. Another thing I liked about it was it fit flush with my Nemesis clone and another was it came pre-built with coil setup at 1.9. Well it was hitting good and tasted good but was flooding and gurgling bad. After messing with the fill and adjusting the airholes I finally got it hitting with some consistentcy. However I knew something was missing. So after reading more posts and watching some youtube videos, I decided it was time for me to build my first coil. I took out the old coil and went to work. Instead of using silica I got some of my girls cotton, grabbed a drill bit and used the wire that came in box. Did single coil build with six wraps and followed Grimgreens method. I tested it out on mvp and it measured 2.1. I dripped the chiney put it all together and it measured 1.7 ohms. Hooked back on Nemesis with charged trustfire 18650 2400 mah battery and took some hits. Finally I am blowing clouds. Thanks everybody for your help.

Isn't it just the best feeling in the world to do it yourself and it works? I think it is wonderful. Happy vaping and rebuilding to ya. If you have any problems, there is someone always here that can help you. That is what makes ecf such a wonderful place. Good luck to ya.

Hope you purchased plenty of Kanthal because if your like me i was rebuilding everyday testing the sub ohm waters, dual vs single, micro vs macro vs nano and super nano and different kinds of twist. One of the reasons i think vaping appealed most to me was the fact that you have the power to build your hardware to produce to your exact liking. Congrats on your first and if you got pics please post! VAPE ON!

I tested it out on mvp and it measured 2.1. I dripped the chiney put it all together and it measured 1.7 ohms.

That's a pretty big swing, and with a change that drastic, I'd probably drain the tank and double-check my build before I put it on a mech, just to be sure. Key things to check for are 1) are your screws tightened all the way and holding the wire securely? 2) Is your coil touching anything in the chimney assembly or are the legs touching the blocks anywhere other than right at the screw? 3) There should be a small space between the positive and negative blocks in your Kayfun, but if the screw in the post of the 510 connector (it actually holds one of the blocks down) is loose, sometimes the larger block can twist a little and end up touching the smaller one - is that gap still there?

I mention this because it's pretty normal for the resistance to fluctuate a little between full and empty, but in my experience, that's more like a .1 ohm change, not .4. With a bigger change like that, I usually go check those other things and find out that one of them isn't right. The larger fluctuation usually indicates a short of some sort or a connection where it shouldn't be, which can put a lot of stress on your battery.
