First Mech Mod & RBA Build, will it be safe?

Hi ECF,
Hoping for some newbie love - I have a Nemesis Clone, Sony VTC5 Battery with a kayfun 3.1 clone sitting ontop (looks smick!)

I built a 0.9 Ohm coil from 28 AWG A1 Kanthal last night (measured the Ohms on a VAMO V5 as i don't have a Ohm Meter) and using the vapers toolbox app on my phone it says i'm pulling only 2-3 Amps from the battery. I have no idea how to confirm this, all i know is that the VTC5 is 30A Continuous and 60A Pulse.

Can anyone point me in the right direction or help? I don't want to blow myself up here
I won't lie, i have been using the mod so far - the tubing hasn't gotten even remotely warm :D

As long as the vamo can measure the resistance, you shouldn't have a short. Just make sure your coil isn't touching the base of the build deck, or the mod will short. I know the feeling, the first one is always scary. And the VTC5 can go down below .2 ohms, you shouldnt have anything to worry about as long as you don't have a short.

Welcome to ECF rindey... good to see you using Ohm's Law.

Actually, I think you may have entered 2.7v instead of 3.7v nominal into your phone app. At 4.2v it's more like 4.7 amps... but with the VTC5s 60a pulse, you have a huge margin of safety. As stated... short of a dead short, you have nothing to worry about.

If you want a bit more information, click on my second sig line hyperlink... and have fun. ;-)

Agree there is a little bit of info you need to know just incase you overlooked it. Pay close attention to your battery drain one of the main issues with a Mech mod is there is noting to prevent you from over discharging your battery so test your battery often. Try maybe testing every couple hours till you get to know your battery per your vaping style. Other then that you can test your atty on your vamo to make sure it remains un shorted. I usually test mine with a meter every day before I start vaping it if I'm running it on a mech mod.

Wow! You guys are awesome, didn't expect so many replies so quickly! ECF is the place to be! Thanks everyone, I definitely appreciate your feedback.

I want to get lower Ohms in the future but even 0.9Ohms with 18mg Nic Juice is a bit strong for my preference. Lucky I've got some Five Pawns 12mg sample packs sitting just waiting to be vaped as soon as i'm confident with safety and the build quality of my coils.

I've been lurking on ECF for quite some time, decided to go with the 'choc-biscuits' of rebuildable supplies thanks to ECF's reccomendations - 100% organic cotton and a1 kanthal direct from Temco (loving it!)

State O' Flux I'll be keeping a close eye on the deck making sure things are hunky-dorey. I'll definitely follow your hyperlink and read up - thanks :)
epicdoom I'll be buyng myself a Ohm Meter & a 510 Volt Meter to keep an eye on things :) Thanks!

Yep, look good to Vape, everything looks 5 x 5. I would drop down to 0.7 or so and give that a ride.

You might want to pick up a atomizer ohm meter, more accurate and can track ohm drift in the build easier.

You ain't going to blow your self up, and it's not the warming of the tube that needs concern with, when an atomizer gets hot, it will pass the heat onto the tube, it's the battery one needs to keep an eye on. You could cause the bat to vent, but you'll need to work hard at that to make it happen. Could happen, but you are looking good to vape to me.

You are demanding more like 4.6 amps with that build, but still, with the VTC5, no prob there. Here's the Ohms Law Calculator that I like to use.

Sounds like your good to go. However, as others have said, I too recommend that you pick up an ohm meter. I'm not saying that the vamo won't give good readings, It's just that I have a lot more confidence in having the meter. Being a little OCD, I sometimes test on multiple devices (vamo, MVP, etc), but that's just me. Besides, I just enjoy screwing around with this stuff.

Cheers All!

Been vaping on the Nemy with Kayfun all day now! Can't get enough flavour! It's awesome

Next build will be on The Kraken, however I got too excited when it arrived and chucked juice in it and PWHOA machine oil taste is foul! Gotta clean it out and start again. Got some SS Mesh with it too, first time working with the stuff.. Could be interesting ;D

As a theoretical question, what would happen if the voltage drops below 3.7 volts on the VTC5 and you keep vaping?
I've been monitoring my usage and I've been charging them back up once they hit 3.8v to be safe

3.7 is the nominal voltage and will not cause any problems. It's when you go below 3v that you might damage the battery. Most regulated mods will turn of when the battery is down to about 3.2v, to leave a safety margin.
