I've been trying out a few juices and different ohm coils. Some flavors were similar so I just rinsed them, but some seemed like they would change the way a juice would taste so I just put in a new coil when I would try it for the first time. Now I have like 10 coils that haven't been used up and I'm going to make a trip to the liquor store to buy something to use on them tomorrow.

Now, having said all that, I've seen a lot of people saying to use Vodka. I don't think I need anything stronger than that; it's not like I'm trying to kill bacteria or anything. But I was wondering if some vodkas are better to use than others. Is the bottom shelf cheap stuff going to leave a bad taste in my wicks? Should I spring for something a little more expensive that doesn't have something bad (any stuff that would harm my coils or stick to them) in it?

How long should I soak my coils in vodka?

Should I rinse them off afterward?

How long should I let them dry if I just pull them out and blow through them?

Thanks in advance :vapor:

The best alcohol to buy is PGA or EverClear as it's the purest form- 190 proof. But any cheap vodka will do.

Overnight is best or at least 8 hours.

Yes.

Until they're dry or you can run a hair dryer on low/ warm to speed the process up. If wet the first few vapes may not be very good.

I find washing/ soaking is good but dry burning really completes the cleaning process.

Why is PGA like Everclear or Golden Grain the best? I guess what I'm asking is, does that mean there are things in vodka that are bad for coils that aren't found in PGAs since they have practically no additives?

It's because for cleaning all we want is the alcohol with as little additives as possible. Bottom line is the cheaper the better and many use the cheapest vodka available. PGA/ Everclear is the purest form of alcohol- can be bought in 151 or 190 proof. PGA 190 is 95% alcohol- Poland makes a stronger pure grain alcohol (193 proof) but it can't be bought here.

I'm about to clean my coils tonight (I got some 190 proof Golden Grain). 2 more quick questions.

Should I leave the rubber grommet (or whatever you call it) off when I soak them in alcohol? (I mean, it won't dissolve or anything will it?)

Just leaving the wicks in them to clean out other flavors is ok isn't it?
It's okay to leave the grommets on as they're silicon and shouldn't be damaged by the PGA. Using the PGA will get even the darkest of stains out of the area where the wick goes through the coil. The wicks are made of silica and are impossible to damage with alcohol or dry burning.

You may not need anything stronger than vodka, however I have found that if I use Everclear (PGA), it stays around a lot longer and doesn't get used in my drinks!

BTW ... a small bottle of PGA is pretty cheap and goes a LONG way when cleaning coils. I put mine in a shot glass and cover them with enough Everclear to keep it from evaporating off the coils while they soak for a day, about 1/8" over the top or so should do it I think.

Otherwise, Vapoor eyes er has pretty much nailed it on the advice!

As always ... YMMV!
