Hi,

I have been a member here now for over a month or so. Well today is my first day without smoking an analog cigarette, I have been vaping for over a month and was smoking maybe at the most 3 a day. When I started this whole thing I had 4 packs left and they just raised the taxes so I was going to finish them and I did. I am such a creature of habit I grab my lighter and want to light my e cig. I didn't do this at all when I started. My mind is also saying you have no cigs you have no cigs. Kind of driving me nuts. I use 11mg of nicotine in my juice and I am still fine with that its just the fact that they are gone I guess that is bothering me. Anyone else have this problem??

Thanks for Reading!

I also quit smoking when I started vaping. I'm not sure how much you smoked (before vaping) but you might want to get some stronger nic in case you need it. Without smoking you might need more than you did. I once tried lowering my nic and was ok for 2 days and then it "hit" me. Not a good thing to happen so it's better to be prepared IMO. Good luck to you and congratulations!

I did it a bit differently. At first, I didn't allow myself to smoke anywhere but the garage. Inside the house I was free to vape. As I continued the weaning process, I purposely vaped were I could smoke. Eventually, vaping took hold and I've never looked back. In my case, it was a form of solitaire that I played with myself. It worked. In time, I associate the urge with vaping, not smoking.

It also helps if the nic level you use satisfies your urge for it. If 11mg isn't enough, go higher. I did (went from 16 to 18mg). I also tried 24, but it was a bit harsh.

Good luck and happy vaping!

Hello and LOL. Don't let that bother you. I caught myself doing the same thing, so I had to hide them or give them away. Old habits are hard to break and take a little time. Just don't throw it out the window when you "think" your done. LOL. Yes, I have heard of someone doing that also. Don't be hard on yourself. Just keep laughing about it. We have all done something like that or at least similar...

Congratulations on day 1!

Smoking and the habits we create surrounding it become hard wired and tend to stay with us. Many, many here report grabbing lighters, looking for ashtrays, etc. long, long after they quit smoking. Don't be too hard on yourself for going through these motions! And don't take these moments too seriously. They are not necessarily indications that you're having a hard time quitting...it just takes a while to unlearn all those habits.

As for the "I don't have any cigs" thoughts going round and round in your head, Why not interrupt that with "But I have my vaping and I will be fine."

Hang in there, you can do it! And you might want some higher nic just in case :)

Hilarious, I was a garage only smoker too. Now it got cold out there and NO WAY am I putting on something warm to have a stinky. In fact, I have no desire whatsoever for an analog. Sitting on the couch with a few PVS next to me, keeps it fresh and flavorful. The other place I smoked was in my car. So NOW I've resorted to air fresheners. If it doesnt start to smell better, it'll be time to junk it and get a new car. Now THAT is the most expensive Vaping upgrade EVER! I cant stand the stench of stale cig smokes.

It's a weird feeling. For me it was the fear of running out that drove me nuts, not so much the not having them around. The fear was much worse than the reality. It takes a few days, but once your mind realizes that you're getting what you need from vaping and not cigarettes, not having them around will not even be an issue.

I still have all my lighters and my ashtray--I find the lighters in weird places but I don't even give them a second thought. It used to be just seeing a lighter triggered a craving. I think I have one here on my desk, actually. It's just one of the many things laying around now.

Congratulations on your first day! It is hard, very hard, but unfortunately not the hardest :( The good news is you have tools you can use to stay quit. I unfortunately went back to analogs after about 6-7 months of vaping due to freaking out over a string of bad hardware/tanks/juice. This time I am much more informed and involved here and it's helping. Problem is I have replaced one expensive habit with another but that will taper off eventually. Not to mention, I didn't quit to save money, I quit smoking to save my life. Details details :)

Everyone's transition is unique unto themselves. Mine took 7 weeks and included poor equipment and half a carton of cigarettes. Four weeks to a setup that would work for me and three weeks to the end of the half carton @ 5 a day. In the end I just decided to TRY not buying more smokes. Don't stress about it, you'll find your way.

Congratz !
still happens here once in a while
the only thing a lighter is good for now, is to light my torch so I can make a new micro coil, you may not know what that is now, but you will later.. Save the lighter !:D

I currently have 10 cartons of little cigars which I smoked since the taxes on cigarettes became outrageous....since rich white men smoke cigars..they left off the onerous taxes on them..so I picked up little cigars..I hope next year to have 10 cartons of little cigars.

You know, about 5 days before I quit smoking I had bought a carton of my beloved american spirit analogs.
After I quit, I still had about 6 packs left.
I have been using them, but not smoking them.
See, I make flavor extract out of them for mixing up my own diy ejuice.
The little cigars would be great for that as well.

Be advised over the next few weeks your urge to find a stinky will be VERY high...when you get those urges, grin to yourself and have a few long hard hits on your vaping rig, gently blow the vape out your nose, grin and know that you have finally defeated the cigarette monster

It took me 2 weeks to leave the "pack at home" another two weeks avoiding my wife because she still smoked and having the urge to attack a pack...you can do it...the urges will go away

Suggestion though is to NOW get a backup for your backup of your backup...otherwise Murphy will show his head and hit you when you finally think you have escaped and leave you without your saving grace vaping rig, have a backup and juice just in case stuff you are ordering takes longer than you hoped for leaving you with no defense...

Congrats and you are now on the first steps of a journey of freedom!

Vape On!!!

Welcome to ECF and congrats on your one day. And tomorrow it will be 2 days. It gets easier. You need a nicotine strength strong enough to curb a big craving. I would get one bottle of a flavor you really like in an 18mg strength to vape when you feel the stronger thoughts or cravings. It does help. You are doing fine and will be just fine. And don't worry if you do have a cigarette. It happens. And you will probably find the cigarette tastes real nasty. Just pick your pv back up and resume vaping. Stay active here, that helps too.

I was going to post my own topic, but then I saw this one in another window. This is what I was about to post.

Last night I smoked my last cigarette. I didn't even want it, but I felt like I shouldn't waste what I had left. Today's date has a significance to me, so it's a perfect day to quit.

Never say never, of course, but I think it's going to stick. I have one carton left to sell, and then I won't have any cigarettes in the house.

I've been transitioning for about a month, and seriously for maybe two, so its a relief to finally be rid of the analogs.

I said I'd wait until I had quit for a week, but as a reward, I'm going to go ahead and take my banner. I want it to reflect every second I haven't smoked a cigarette. I have no way of procuring affordable cigarettes without driving an hour to the Native American Reservation, and I'm not paying almost $10 a pack for them locally anyway, so it wouldn't be a simple decision to start up again.

If anyone sees this in the future, keep in mind that the money I've saved reflects the reservation prices. If I was going by local prices, I'd have saved about 5 times as much.

I have the ultimate found a lighter story for you.

I had a really nifty zippo lighter for years. About 3 years ago we moved into this house and somewhere during the move I lost the zippo. I figured I must have dropped it somewhere and it was gone forever.

I never got a new one I just made do with the junky disposables my tobacco shop gives out with every carton. I had probably 75 of them in a ziplock baggie in the pantry since I am very good at keeping up with where my lighter is.

A week ago I was moving furniture around in the living room and heard a metallic clank of something hitting the floor. Found my dang zippo. It must have been stuck ina chair cushion for YEARS.

First thought that went through my head "Well I will be D----"
2nd though "This is going to make annealing wire SOOOOOO much easier!"
