OK,

So here is what i did, everything from Wizard labs =

1ml 100mg/ml vg nicotine
3ml PG

1/4 ml 555 type DK tobacco flavor
3 drops Toasted Almond
1 drop Vanillin
1 drop Sweet Cream

Do these ratios look reasonable? I kind of followed a recipe on the juice calculator, at least the ratio of flavoring to base, I think.

The juice doesn't really taste good. Kind of like celery salt or something. I am guessing that the toasted almond is what is coming through.

Any advice?

Thanks

Ratios look fine, only thing I can say is that if you tried it right after mixing you may need to let it steep for a while. Throw it in a cabinet for a few days and taste it again. I've made a few juices that did not taste great but after a week or two of steeping turned out really nice.

Flavor is at 10% if I got my math right which is about right for most tobacco juices in my opinion. You should definitely just let it steep, my of my tobacco juices are best after 2 weeks or more.

If you want to speed it up and cheat a bit you can microwave a small glass of water, stop before it boils then put the bottle of juice in it and let it sit until the water gets cool.

Nothing replaces time with juices but a hot bath can help the flavors mix quickly.

5 days later---- it has mellowed the celery salt flavor somewhat - still not up to the standard of my purchased juice....

I know nothing nothing about tobacco juices at all. But so far in my noobie experience if it doesn't good, not saying it has to be great, but if it doesn't taste good and I wouldn't vape it then it never will. Steeping can help a good flavor get better or at least it does change some but it's still good. That's my 2 cents worth but re tobacco flavors Ive gotten the strong impression they are all pretty much a compromise with a few rare exceptions. If your just starting DIY play with the least challenging stuff until you get make a great one. The recipe may not have been so great, they might have had flavors from different flavor companies and even the base plays a part. I like to listen to veteran DIY people but even they have a subjective opinion about from whom to buy the best cherry flavor or cream flavor or whatever flavor. Same with a lot of it. It's such an experiential type thing. Fun though. Nope. Aside from tobacco since I know nothing, I always vape straight after a mixing after using hot water bathes and beaters and testing til it's good. THEN if I want a couple weeks later ( so far there has never been any left) you might dilute or add or whatever.

A DIY Newbie here too... Have yet to hit a batch that comes close to store-bought even after steeping..and..using all the tips and tricks to speed the steeping up that I've come across here too... So, I think, as seems to be the consensus, that time is what works on steeping -- just be patient is the key... Although patience, while it may be a virtue, isn't in high supply when you're running low on store-bought because you put all your pennies into DIY supplies and didn't order a few ready-made juices to tide you over until your DIY ripens...

some good suggestions here.

I am considering going with some fruit flavors. I generally like melon and strawberry juices that I have vaped. Orange is ok too.

Regarding mixing a larger unflavored batch, that sounds like a great idea! That should also make the actual flavoring easier.

Right now I have a bunch of DK desert ship that I can vape while I experiment, so there is no real time pressure except FDA.

I am kind of using this thread to document what mixes I have created and their progress through steeping. Seems easy to do that and may help someone else starting out to read through my experiences.

So, anyway I have been going slow. I have several tobacco flavors that I have decided to just test those by themselves first, to get familiar with how they are without additional flavors. I guess the best of those I will use to try to further flavor.

THanks again for the suggestions.

That would actually be my second best tip to give someone starting out. Go slow and get to know your flavors individually, what percentages and amounts to use with them and how strong they are by themselves. Once you know their characteristics, it makes it much easier to decide how they will work with other flavors.

I'm a DIY newbie also, and am taking the same route, trying to see what the different tobacco flavors taste like by themselves before trying to add stuff to them. I even tried some flavors at several different strengths. But tobacco flavors seem hard to get right. Fruit flavors are a lot easier and don't seem to require the steeping that tobaccos do, so I can get immediate results instead of waiting for weeks to see how they turn out.

The exception that I've found is a Super Concentrated flavor from Vaping Zone. I mixed up some of their Honey Flue Cured Tobacco SC and it tasted pretty much like the pre-made HFC Tobacco juice that I've been buying from them.
