Hey all,

I got a couple packages in the mail today... first, my Decadent Vapours Absinthe ejuice, and second, my COV Gen 1 (Chinese Genesis clone, which I bought before I bought the Zenesis, but hey, good for practice...)

I had to go to the hardware store and buy a butane torch... (after screwing up a wick by trying to oxidize it with a bic.. and subsequently cutting it too short)..

I used the rolling paper method for wrapping my coil, and it worked right away without any fiddling. I am vaping my Gen1 on an eGo twist, with my absinthe ejuice... Now that i have made this one, I feel a lot more confident for when my Zenesis gets here!

I was a little worried after reading about all the trouble people seem to have, but I am very dexterous (professional guitarist) and didnt seem to have any problems... it felt a lot like changing a string...

It does however taste a little harsh, and I am wondering if this is normal for new coils?

Cheers!

Where did you buy the Decadent Vapours Absinthe ejuice?

all the coils were lighting up evenly, and the air hole is right over the wick... I just popped on a cartomizer with the absinthe ejuice, and it made me realize that the Gen1 is all throat hit and less vapour than the carto.. The carto is much smoother with a thick plume of vapour... Could it be just not enough air getting in? Would boring out the air hole help this?

also, I got the juice here:
ABSINTHE [DVABSINTHE] - $21.04 : E Liquid, Premium E Liquid Specialists, Electronic Cigarette, UK

It is pretty good, though a bit heavy on the star anise (makes it taste more like black licorice than actual absinthe, which is green anise based, among other herbs...[wormwood, fennel, anise, lemon balm, hyssop and roman wormwood are the 6 herbs in a traditional absinthe]) ... however it still tastes amazing for an ejuice.

Cheers!

Quoiyaien, I notice that until my coil wire gets a blackish patina coating of burnt Ejuice fully coating it, some of the wire flavor can be noticed early on. I use low flavor or no flavors thus it takes me longer to get the coating(les than a ml) than you should have with flavored mixes. I hope it mellows soon for you ;)

I agree that being a guitarist is a big +. In my youth I played mostly electric & bent notes hard, breaking high E strings daily. I would buy E string wire & would wrap  the ball ends myself to save money.

Try using no screw in the fill hole. Just leave it opened & it may help reduce the throat hit by increasing wicking.

I would hold off on drilling until you are sure you want to. I personally like the small air holes in the duds, even if they are harder to vape on. :2c:

i'm going to take a guess and say decadent vapors.
also, make sure the airhole is lined up with the wick and when you fire the coil dry it all lights up evenly and simultaneously.

Yeah ya know...I made that same jugement call before asking the question, but didn't have any luck at their web site. They do however have distributers...just wondered which one. :D

i have my DID'S for about 5 or6 months now, love them. after i install a new wick & coil i find that the taste and vapor is perfect instantly. i have never found that the initial taste is any different to the taste after time. in fact i would say that the taste and vapor is optimal initially and goes down after time. this is my opinion anyways. i use 28g mostly, sometimes 30g, but more & more i find the 28g better. i like a 4 wrap and a 1.0 ohm coil . now i just bought a certain juice that was very sweet and it just didnt work very well with the genny. i had many juices in my DID'S in the 5 months or so and never had a problem with taste, but this particular juice just didnt taste good at all with the DID. i think it just had to much sweetener in it. it gummed up the coil within a couple of vapes, then tasted bad. when i put it into a cartomizer, it was fine. but all the rest of my juices taste incomparable in the DID to any carts or regular attys. so it may be your juice, it may be the set-up. but like i said i personally dont think that you need to run through 2 tanks of juice to break in a new set-up, at least in my opinion. good luck

what you're describing is a hotspot. take out your juice and do any dryburn to check. try adjusting the coils while firing, it makes it easier.

I totally agree, adjusting coils while firing is the easiest way to get it right (I mean, if Zen does it that way, it MUST be...and I'm not a zenfidel or w/e they call themselves...heh).

Two things though- If you adjust the coils while firing, and hypothetically you use a conductive piece of metal to adjust them, and again hypothetically you touch that piece of metal to the positive post briefly, you *may* create a miniature welder out of your coil-poker and pop your coil. I swear I never did this. I don't think I've ever seen anyone else mention this, but it's actually quite easy for it to happen, lol!

Secondly, if you're dry-firing for too long on a plastic-tank genesis unit, the SS might heat up enough to melt through the plastic tank. Now, this hasn't happened to me, but I have heard of it happen to others.
