I know these questions are a bit presumptuous, but i am curious.

-what price point were you thinking?
-how far off are you from a prototype?
-how far off do you think yo are from doing the first run?
-how many do you think you will be making?

I ask because i want to make sure to budget appropriately, with my money and my time and expectations.

I am very much interested, too bad i cant help with finding people to build things.

much luck

Excellent questions all.

-I'm shooting for no more than $250. Since I have no designs as of yet in solidworks, my machinist cannot give me a quote on machining.
-Prototype is limited with my ability to have something machined. I don't know anyone with a lathe that can make a basic prototype (not matching style, but only functionality) so the prototype will have to be made from the machinist that makes the full run.
-regardless of interest, it is my intention to go forward with having these made by the end of march. If I have to pay for the entire thing with my income taxes, that is what I will do. It would be my preference though to have folks pay a down payment for the device to secure a spot on the list and to help pay for machining. I mentioned on another forum since I'm fairly new, that I would be more than happy to have a trusted third party collect the funds for this and when the actual devices are done, everyone will be required to pay the remaining balance.
-I would start with 100-200 for the first run based on interest thus far. Gauging from interest thus far, 100 would seem more appropriate, but as soon as my machinist is able to put together the actual designs, I'm sure we'll get a LOT more interest.

I did find someone who offered to help with solidworks and I sent him the basic design specs and am awaiting his reply. That was yesterday so I may not get a response for a few days.

Thanks fort he answers!

Sounds like a good plan to me. I think the price is fair, i just hope i can get in on it as i am sure, as you said, that you will get a lot more interest as it gets closer to being made.

The design is unique and fun, the concept is solid.

I am ab it interested in how big it is in the hand and how it will be held and all the ergonomics of it.

Well, I can give you and anyone else interested a few dimensions that I've given the machinist to work around. In order to accommodate both the atty and the battery side by side, I have to build it at LEAST 48mm long at it's smallest. Now that doesn't account for additional mass to attach the hinges to or anything else so I've told the machinist to make it 53mm long at it's base. It will be roughly 48mm tall. This does not include the stem which will probably extend another 50mm or so. Width of the device can be pretty thin so we're shooting for somewhere in the vascinity of 30-40mm wide. Overall, not that large, but larger than a traditional tobacco pipe and most epipes I've seen.

I think pretty much the only way to fix this is to tilt the pipe stem up a little so that it is tilted a little. It's still not going to be anywhere close to what we do with a hybrid when we tilt it almost 90 degrees.

You could also go with the tank upside down method like the Cyclon V2 uses but, that's your call. Just wanted to give ya some options.

I've kind of put this one on the back burner for a few... until I get the Model T genesis device into production then I'll fast track this one. I wouldn't be much of a problem but my machinist has solidworks 2010, and I have 2011. They are not forwards compatible and I can't save it as an older version of solidworks...so... he's got to do the designs completely for himself. Needless to say, this won't be on the backburner for long as I've FASTTRACKED the Model T.
