Hello, my first post. I would like to thank everyone for making this such a helpful and friendly forum! This is so much more enjoyable than a watercooling forum I visit where noobs are very often dismissed to search/read all the 5 year old stickies before being worthy to participate.:) You all make this a great site.

I am curious to how you got introduced to e-cigs. I had a co-worker who mentioned 2 or 3 times about his aunt who had gotten one and how she had vaped while in the hospital no less. I got curious and purchased a NJOY disposable at the gas station- $8.00. It tasted good to me so I got the Nicotek/NJOY 'Platinum' next which came with 10 cartos and 2 batteries- $50. I didn't know much about e-cigs then but I was hooked! I had not intended to quit analog cigarettes but it came so easily that I got excited that it might be possible to quit them for good this time! That was the 16th of December 2011 and I am not looking back- only forward to finding the right juice for my new Echo Stealth:blush:. I have been smoking about a pack/day for 30 years.

What was your introduction to e-cigs? How do you introduce smokers to vaping? Do you think a 'cigarette-looking' e-cig helps with the transition or would it be ok to give someone a fat-batt right away?

Thanks again everyone.

Congratulations and welcome to ECF! I found out about ecigs and ECF just by doing some research about it. Once you get use to vaping, you can suggest it to others too. I would suggest buying some extra drip tips for others to try, or at least get some alcohol wipes to prevent yourself from catching anything from a stranger. ECF also has some business cards you can hand out for others. Enjoy your stay here and ask any questions you may have.

Thanks :) It's 3:45 AM and I can't sleep- I have more energy now it seems. I found ECF trying to find out about a FUMA e-cig I got at a local discount tobacco store. The NJOY cartos were too much at $20 for 5. The FUMAs were $11 for 5 which was better but turns out it is an 808-D2 and not very available. All in all it was worth the expense having found ECF and hopefully helping others quit smoking. I think that is one of the most important things we can do for other smokers.

I heard some ads on the radio a while back. I did some research, found ECF, did a LOT more research. I ordered a Riva kit thinking, we will see how it works. I quit smoking the day I got my kit. Except for 1 casino mishap I have been smoke free for 15 months. No regrets here. Good luck to you and welcome to ECF.

Hi and Welcome to the ECF! I found a rediculously overpriced ecig kit at the mall, bought it and found the ECF trying to look up why the battery life was terrible. Many will direct you to a Riva kit which is a disposable 3.7v mod. It's decent to start with but many people find themselves wanting more in terms of battery life or voltage and move to mods with removable batteries, higher voltages and longer battery life. Some are content w/ the smaller ecigs and stick w/ that.

The decision is ultimately up to the buyer. The more your pv/ecig looks like a cigarette the less battery life you will have. + on the ecig is that it's a relatively inexpensive way to get started and is good for someone new as they look like an analog and are very straighforward to use. Whatever you get I recommend a 510 connection to start so that you can reuse your equipment if you decide to upgrade + for some more expensive mods is that they retain some value (I'd guess most at about 80% or better) and you can resell if you don't care for them.

Look through the threads where people post pics of their setups or on the classies to get a feel for what's out there and make your best choice. Most important is that you just get started.

Gee, it's only early here, 8.00pm Tuesday, but it doesn't matter about the time, there is always someone on this forum from somewhere around the globe. Welcome!!!

Stick with an eGo starter kit and some 2.0ohm Boge cartos to start. Get some good juice that you think you’ll like and you will find your own way from there.

First thing to remember is that it is not about other people, it’s about you. Get yourself settled with your gear and juice and then other people will see you using it and ask questions. That's when you will be able to move other people to vaping.

Don't ever think that you are being selfish by looking after yourself first. It's like the airline's safety instructions…"Put YOUR oxygen mask on first before helping others with their mask." There’s a good reason for that. If you pass out, you can’t help anyone else!!

BTW: I smoked 35-40 analogues/day for 40 years. Overheard my receptionist talking about a friend of hers who had bought an ecig from Hong Kong. Looked into it and bought an eGo from England. It arrived here on 3 May 2010, my last smoke was 5 May 2010. But hey, my better half still smokes. Go figure!!

Again welcome and I hope you enjoy the journey.

Cheers.

I first learned of ecigs when I happened to stumble across a post on Craig's list while I was searching for used camera equipment...I thought I was misreading it, lol. That led me to a google search and then staying up half the night watching ecig youtube tutorials and demonstrations. I couldn't believe that this product actually existed and what's more, that I had never heard of it before! That was a year ago and the rest, as they say, is history!

My first exposure to ecigs was through a web site sales pitch that featured a pseudo news cast that supposedly was out to prove ecigs were a rip off. The news caster tried an ecig, thinking that it was junk and found out she didn't want to smoke anymore after a few days. The people who worked with her were amazed since she had been a chain smoker.

It turned out to be a deal where you ordered an ecig that was free if you bought pre-filled cartos and they would keep sending you more and more cartos and charging your credit card. I didn't fall for it, but found ECF and discovered that the vaping world didn't have to be a rip off.

ECF has been an informative and valuable forum for my vaping life!

Hi SCTony and welcome to ECF.
I was first introduced to vaping by a friend and his wife up at the cottage. I immediately began researching and found ECF, a wonderful forum with more info than I could ever digest and a more giving group of people I'll doubt you'll find anywhere else. Before buying though I spent at least 200+ hours researching and all the answers I ever needed were right here at ECF. As for converting, most of my friends including myself, had tried patches, pills, hypnosis, acupuncture, etc and were 100% unsuccessful and so they were ready to quit smoking and took to vaping like a duck to water. They are also at that age where health issues are a major concern especially smoking and pretty well all of them were resigned to the fact they'd go to their grave as a smoker. I'm not being sexist here but most of the men didn't mind the larger fatter batt models while some of the women preferred the slim analog looking style in the beginning. All of them are now using Mods but they don't mind their first slim purchase as they realize the importance of a back up set. As for people I didn't know I've converted 6 and I believe the key is about not being pushy. Another problem was harnessing my enthusiasm while speaking to these potential converts. It seems when I am out vaping in public the people that are sincerely interested in vaping are those that have a friend or loved that smokes.
Happy Vaping, Vapoor.

I've heard about ecigs in the past but the first time I really considered it was several weeks ago when I was at a gas station. At the counter they were selling a very inexpensive disposable ecig. I didn't get it but on the way home I wish I did. That led me to researching ecigs and of course to amazing ECF!!! Now I'm glad i didn't buy the one then because I was able to do a lot of research and choose a quality setup and ejuices to give myself the best chance of liking it and kicking the cig habit! I'm waiting for my setup in the mail and I'm so excited!!! :)

About two months ago I was sucking on commit lozenges and whining about wanting a cig when my husband suggested ecigs. He switched to snus about 2 years ago and had been reading about ecigs on the snus forum. I looked online a little bit, almost bought a blu, then decided to think about it some more. The next day I was coughing up a lung and decided to research more. Found ECF, hit up Liberty Flights before I could talk myself out of it, and started vaping 4 days later.

In less than two months I've upgraded to a 5v box mod, lowered my nic from 24 to 12mg, and converted my 66 yr old mom who had smoked for almost 50 years.
