Have posted previously on US site regarding recomendations and have just got my new VE Riva 1000 today :) thanks to some very helpful people on US based site.

Started new thread here as think I have now posted 5 times to post on UK site.

Watched some videos re settigs up and all appears good. Could not believe first puff I took, was not expecting so much smoke (sorry vapour!) and coughed as though it was a strong B&H (My brand was Berkely Blue Superkings by the way, 15 to 20 a day for 20 odd years).

Have one real cigarette left and what that ritual last smoke before I go forth with my Riva........................

Please god let it work!!. I plan to read through these threads for tips etc but would like to buy some spare clearomisers or cartomisers from a UK retailer, I bought kit from vape escape so happy enough to buy from there - are the vision ego ones ok to stick with or are there better ones?, happy to stick with disposable ones for time being. Same question for cartomisers. I read the clearomisers last around a week and cartons up to three weeks (does that sound about right?)

Bought a mint and a cherry flavour both taste quite nice. Strengh was 18mg, would you say that is to strong baring in mind my Barkely Blues are 7mg!!!!!

Probaly will have loads more questions but fingers crossed and here goes........................

Hi & Welcome Bracken :)

Good choice with the Riva Kit.... if i had to go back to when i started vaping, i would have picked that one too, and to be honest, you may well be happy just sticking with that one.

I'm not sure you would get 3 weeks out of any carto - sounds like a long time to me especially for someone who smoked 15-20 cigs a day. I have used megacarts, which are pretty much the same as a carto, just bigger and i've never had 3 weeks out of one (2 weeks max and they hold more than twice the liquid you get in a standard carto). I use a carto tank and it's generally between 3 - 5 days before i feel the need to swap the carto out and put a new one in.

It depends what you prefer really so have a try with some different cartos, clearos, tanks, etc and see what you like the best. You would be much better off going for clearo / tank with a replaceable head though, the tank will go on and on and you just need to replace the heads every now and then. It's a very simple process - just unscrew the old one, take it off and screw the new one on (by hand). A head could well last you 3 weeks or so, just depends - everything requires a little maintenance, but 10mins every couple of days is all.

I havent used vision ego clearos before so cant tell you much about them. Evods & Kanger T3s seem popular, although i prefer the larger capacity of a kanger protank 2 or a vivi nova tank.

Vape Escape is an excellent vendor and here is a list of some more from Chrissie's AAEC UK-based forum;

As for nicotine strength, then it's probably fine to start at 18mg - if that's a bit strong try something a bit lower, but if you find yourself craving analogs then increase the nic strength back up again.

Good luck ;)

Hi again bracken, glad to hear you are liking your Riva kit :)

Codz is right, you would be very lucky or a very light vaper to get 3 weeks out of a cartomiser - more like a week at most.

Most folks cough when they take their first drags on a good e-cig :) Try holding the vapour in your mouth for a few seconds before taking it back into your lungs.

Thanks all, great advice :) - so far so good, had my last ciggie 6 hours ago!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think once I get past the routine of smoking - what I liked was that a cigarette has a start and finish duration, smoke it stub it out....

But it saying that I am positive and like the ample supply of smoke (sorry Vapour) and seems to deal with nicotine craving.

Did most of you go straight from cigarette to e-cigs -cutting out cigarettes completely or make the transition more gently?

I used the dispoable cig-a-likes on and off for about 5 months, then i bought a rechargeable kit for cig-a-likes and used that for about 2 months increasing my vaping / smoking ratio to about 50% then finally over to 100% vaping, although i only managed about 2 weeks of vaping exclusively with the cig-a-likes before i had to upgrade to a ego-style battery.

If i had started with the Riva kit, i'm pretty confident that i would have cut out smoking a lot quicker and saved a fair bit of money too. One of the key things for me was getting lots of different flavours of liquid so i always had a couple of new ones to try each week until i found a good dozen or so that i really liked.

So far so good, using mint flavour as I always sucked a mint when smoking :)

No real craving to smoke as yet, one day down, so touch wood............ Must say I am very impressed by how close Vaping is to smoking (or is that the wrong thing to say :)

I have ordered a host of diff flavours but confused as to what ratio PG/VG so just went 50/50. Tried both clearomiser and carto thingy, think I prefer the clearomiser as I can see whats left.

The big test for me is when I am back at work 2morrow and introduce Mr Riva to my hard core smoking buddies :)

Welcome Bracken,

Did most of you go straight from cigarette to e-cigs -cutting out cigarettes completely or make the transition more gently?

I smoked 20 to 30 cigarettes per day for 40 years, did not even try to give it up because I liked it. Started vaping August 2012, stopped smoking but kept 10 gigs in the drawer, these drifted into smoke over a six month period but I was sort of testing myself to see if I would still crave them, by the time I smoked the last one I did not even like the taste anymore and the craving had definitely disappeared, I am surprised and pleased that vaping is so satisfying and can replace such a bad habit.

Hi and welcome bracken I started off on a jacvapour cig lookalike and stopped smoking as soon as I started using the ecig. Then went down what seems to be normal route of ce4-5, evod with ego battery before ending up on what I have now. I've got a sigelei zmax v5 with smoktech pyrex dct tanks and am completely satisfied not once do I even think about tobacco anymore. For me carto tanks have given me a much more satisfying vape experience and the variable wattage of the zmax definately helps. My wife is happy with her ce5's and ego and thinks things taste worse in my setup and that's the thing with juice taste can be so personal and subjective. This is a great community and all the help you need you'll find here to help you finetune to the point your happy. I'm still a newbie really haven't tried that many flavours but do enjoy fruit flavours. Good luck with the vaping it's definitely worth sticking with.

This made me laugh, I still have my "last" analog too ...

Its in the fridge, attached with a rubber band to my "last" beer, that has been sitting unopened for 22 years now ...

For me, the way to quit was never to acknowledge it. I'm just taking a looooooong break from drinking and smoking ...

And if a tsunami is approaching SoCal, I'm heading to the beach with that beer and smoke to enjoy the show ! :D

just a quick update 8 days in and not one cigarette :)

Vaping works very well for me, as I get that hand to mouth motion, and the nicotine in the juice is spot on. It is so good going into a shop and not buying my usual pack of 20.................

Think I prefer clearomisers as the cartomisers seemed to last only a day before burnt taste in mouth, I know I should top them up but not being able to see what is left is the problem for me.

Quick question about clearomisers - Do you have to clean/wash them out every so often? -if so why? - and is it ok to put in a diff flavour on top of another?

I must say I had my doubts about vaping but it 100% works................Any other newbie reading this and thinking about quitting, I say go for it :)
