While all of the "STAY SAFE" advice here is excellent and true, let's not scare the pants off of anyone considering a mech.

1) If you build all of your coils .4 ohms or higher, you drastically reduce the Kapoom! factor. It's the super-sub ohm coils (IMHO, anything below .4 ohms) where things can get dangerous on a mech. There's no regulation in the mod to protect you.
2) Invest in high-drain batteries with a good Amp discharge rate (I shoot for 20 amps, but higher is better!) Samsung 25Rs are my personal favorite.
3) Make sure you lock the mech's firing button before you vertically set the mech down.
4) Don't be an idiot and put the battery into the mech upside down. That one WILL get you a Darwin award! Pay attention...this is not a toy.
5) Periodically take the mech firing button apart and clean it. Ditto with the top firing pin (I do this more often than the button). Keep the mech's internals clean.
6) IMHO, it's a good idea to take the battery(ies) out of the mech when it's not in use.
7) Buy your mech batteries from a reputable vendor. Lightning Vapes is a good one - eBay, not so much.
8) If the plastic casing wrap on your battery is torn, chuck it and buy a new one.
9) Check the ohm level of your RTA/RDA before you start vaping. Even a coil that checked out fine last week can get loose after a while.
10) If you're doing all of this, chances are pretty remote you're gonna wind up getting a Darwin award. And, IMHO, a .5 ohm coil on top of my Stingray X is STILL the penultimate in vaping bliss!

(not that I love my Coolfire IV's any less!)

Lightning Vapes - Great Products, Lightning Fast Shipping! Silica Wick, Kanthal Wire, Stainless Steel Mesh, Ekowool and More!

p.s. 11) To me, hybrid adaptors are more trouble than they're worth, but YMMV - if you decide to use one, do some research first. They are potentially really dangerous if that RDA pin doesn't extend out far enough.

While we are on the subject of mechs:
A top tip for cleaning copper or brass mechs is ketchup. It cleans on contact, so is very good for threads and internal switch parts, is water soluble so can be easily rinsed away. I then use Brasso to get a high shine on areas like the outside of the tube and the button.

Here's another technique for a really high shine
How to speed-clean your Copper/Brass Mech

But it's messy, Sonic! Lemon juice works well, it's cheap, and your coffee table won't look like you've just commited murder on it when you're done spiffying up a mech.

Sure, Gov is just a bunch of people who would like to keep their job while doing nothing.

A government employee gets payed if they do something or nothing.

To get them to do something requires offering them $$$$$.

I respectfully disagree, Boden. I work my (_!_) off every day. And there are a LOT of people out there who deeply appreciate what I do for a living. Back off on the gubmint workers unless you know one personally. I can tell you right now, if you did, you wouldn't make comments like that. Sure, there are SOME lazy bums who work for the Feds. Just like any other large company with +10K employees. But there are a lot of us who work really hard, and, no joke, really do strive for excellence (it's a catch-phrase, I know..) every day. I'm proud of how I make my living.

And I'm getting tired of yahoos like you who assume you KNOW I'm a clueless, lazy good for nothing loser simply because of who I work for!

(end of rant, but God, it's annoying!!)

Cowtown, USA. Where the West begins.
For polishing, I tend to use the vibrating bowl I use to polish fired brass before reloading. Used with ground corncob media to clean and (very finely) ground nutshells to polish. Of course, not everybody loads their own ammo or polishes rocks or whatever, so they might not have one... :)

I do it it the kitchen sink, and supermarket own ketchup is really cheap. I kind of like the fresh murder scene look.

I think you misunderstood, unless you are an elected offical you are not government. I do spend a good bit of time with government officials.

I suspect you work for the government. I have nothing but respect for the police, school teachers, firefighters, DMV workers, etc.

I am using the word government in the classical sense. Definition of GOVERNMENT

I corrected my post to say offical not employee.

Personally, I use an AltSmoke Silver Bullet mechanical mod. It has more stock safety features (recessed side fire button, fire button designed to vent batteries, optional battery extension tube for using a Kick, uses a "hot spring") than most over-the-counter mech mods currently on the market.

I've written a Beginner's Guide to Your First Mechanical Mod, which covers the differences between a mechanical vs. regulated mod, suggests the essential safety accessories, the optional safety accessories to add layers of safety to your mech, the routine maintanance, the use of proper batteries, the proper ventilation, low resistance vaping, and faux hybrid mods.

You're right. I work for the Feds, Boden. Forgiven lol...
