I just wanted to say thanks to the owner of this forum and to all the members who post with their experience and advice.

I bought my first e-cig a couple of weeks ago from ebay but wished I'd found this forum first. The one I bought is OK, but I've since bought a DSE901 which is soooo much better and which I only decided on based on all the positive posts about it here.

The only downside is that it is costing me a fortune in equipment and different juices, but I'm hoping that will eventually be offset by the fact that I'm hardly smoking any analogues (love the fact they are called that here) and I am hoping to quit them completely in the near future.

One other thing I particularly like is that some people here refer to vaping as a "hobby". I'd never have referred to smoking in that way, but if I try to think of vaping as a new hobby then the money spent doesn't seem so much as I always spend a fortune every time I start a new hobby :).

Anyway, thanks again.

Hi Joolz .... i'm another new ecig smoker and want to echo your sentiments.
I was lucky though, i found this site before i purchased so i had a chance to research before laying out the cash. Got my 901 yesterday when i got home from work. I was having to force myself to put it down all evening.

I think the cost will quickly offset too. I'm not sure how much analogues cost over there now but here in Iowa i'll pay between $4:00 and $5:50 a pack for marlboros depending where i buy them. So there's at least $30.00 a week. I don't see me using $30 of juice in a week.

Anyways ... welcome to your new hobby.

Joolz, welcome to guinea pig land. 8-o

The intial investment can be quite high like I now have 3 e-cigs in less that 1 week. I'm now trying to avoid purchasing any more and I just need to find a few juice's that I like.

UkUsa. You are looking to pay around the £5 mark per pack here so that would be around $7.50? And that's the cheaper brands!

First post - another thank you

Christmas seems an appropriate time to join this forum properly since I have been a lurker from early October, taking without participating.

Purely by chance I came across a thread on Ebay end Sept-early Oct. where the e-cig was being discussed. Jumped in and bought a super mini (mindset being it had to resemble a cigarette), then a 901 which was better , a penstyle and eventually a screwdriver. To date I find the penstyle the one I am most comfortable with using a combination of menthol and practically any other flavour.

Originally I just wanted something to help with long haul flights, car journeys and hotel rooms but found, without intending it, that I cut back considerably. No pain at all, just happened, wonderful...especially since I had stopped smoking for 10 months and just restarted unable to bear the agony any longer.

But I owe my thanks to this forum without which I would have floundered around in ignorance, it has been and continues to be illuminating and I am off to pay my sub.

A Merry Christmas and a peaceful New Year to you all.

I should have added that one of my biggest problems with the cost is that I changed from proper cigs to roll-your-own a few years ago so at most I spent around £20.00 on baccy per week. I've so far spent over £200.00 on e-cigs, carts and juice, and I still need to get some spare batteries and atomisers. I'm also tempted by the cranberry classic pen style cig and the screwdriver! I just need to fully convince myself that it's a hobby :).

I was the same way with my first ecig experiences. I am so glad that I found this forum when I did. I have learned so much from the amazing people here.

I totally agree about the hobby part as well. It definitely can get expensive... but it is also a ton of fun! My personal collection is growing by the day.. and costing me a small fortune. haha. I am very tempted to pick up a screwdriver, although my usb battery seems to be doing the trick for me at the moment (I am planted at my computer for a good chunk of the day). My favorite part of the hobby, is making my own creations. I have made a few odd smoking contraptions that I am really proud of, and have soldering iron burns/scars to prove it! haha.

Welcome to the forums you guys!

I gave in this evening after posting and ordered a screwdriver! I read too much and want too much!

The only excuse I can give is that I very, very rarely buy into new technology but this one is just necessary.

I really liked the idea of the Super, but it didn't really work for me (not enough vapour).

I really, really like the DSE901B, but it arrived with one defective battery and one battery that seems to be trying to die. Absolutely no fault of the supplier - I have been promised replacements for the batteries and have no doubt I will receive them after the christmas break. I think I probably picked the worst time of years to try out these things!

I've now ordered a few atomisers which will work with both the DSE901 and the SD. I already have a lot of juice (can't resist the idea of some of those flavours and am already in love with JC Vanilla Ice-Cream).

I noticed somewhere on this forum that someone mentioned they might break even on their e-cig expenditure in 2038. I realise that was a joke and mentioned it to my DH (who is a non-smoker). He made the comment that perhaps that person might be around in 2038 to enjoy the break-even point because they now vape instead of smoking:).

Welcome Joolz, UkUsa, and Spike.

Joolz the intial cost can be quiet expensive however in the long run it could be cheaper. It really depends on how much you smoke. I used to smoke a carton a week at 40.00 a carton for a total of 160.00 a month. After the intial cost for the device and spare parts I should be in the saving in a couple of months.

I was lucky enough to find this forum before buying too. So far I have a Kissbox and a 901 - love them both. I think over time the cost will even out, as I went through a carton of analogs every week before finding the e-cig, though I already want the new Janty ecig promised for February. I'm still looking for the ultimate flavor but I like Riskee Juice quite a bit. Just ordered the JC sampler...I've been thinking of all the spending as my Xmas present to myself.

Since this post seems to be a sort of coming out party for newbies, i thought i would say hi!

I've been e-smoking for about three weeks now. I bought my starter kit from thesmokelessshop and was amazed by the service and the amount of goodies that came with the cheap price tag. wow 3 batts, 2 atomizers, juice, 2 chargers and carts!! She really gets you off to a great start!

I have since bought 2 bottles of juice from puresmoker and i have to say I like it much more than the kick juice. More smoke and great flavor! I even got one of the flavors nicotine free because I've found i love e-smoking so much i was doing it a lot more than i had been smoking analogs.

Long live the E-Cig!!! :D

Plus a a leather case, syringe and some blank carts? That sounds like quite a deal! :thumb:

I also want to join this "coming-out-for-Newbies" thread. This is my first post. I've been lurking since November when I saw a local TV news story about an electronic cigarette being sold in a mall. I Googled "electronic cigarette", found this forum, and have been reading it avidly since. I've been smoking for twenty-plus years, and am very aware of the excellent reasons to stop smoking altogether--however, I'm quite addicted, and I like to smoke.
I want to join Joolz and other newbies in saying THANK YOU to the administrators and regulars for the good faith, intelligence, civility, and, above all, helpfulness of the posts in this forum.
It's an exciting time for smokers to observe the development of the e-cigarrette--it's a little like being an observer of the automobile industry in 1902, or of the personal computer circa 1980.
I think I need in my first e-cigarette a lot of vapor for the throat hit, and maybe even for a "lung hit". Reliability is also very important. So, after reading many of the threads and watching the video reviews, I've just taken the plunge and ordered an Intellicig EVO. I was very tempted by the looks of the black M104, but I chose to go with Intellicig's apparently souped-up and quality-controlled version of the M104. As Toyota has shown the auto industry, reliability and performance trump looks and gimmicks, and the e-cig companies that get this will make a mint over the long haul. (I also was tempted by the Loong Totem v9, and while I think it may point to the future of the e-cig, I don't think that this device is yet ready for prime time). I also ordered a Janty Dura. This is a bit of a leap of faith because there have been reliability problems reported in some of the posts on this site with Janty components. And while Janty's warranty and reputation for good customer service are appreciated, a consumer really doesn't want to be in a position of having to avail themselves of them. Let's hope the "Dura" lives up to its name. I'll certainly report back once I get it.
Anyway, to all the pioneers and buffs and reviewers--again, thank you.

Julie

i agree! over here in the States, I have been doing MYO cigs for over 5 years. One $8 bag of tobacco [6 oz.] and a box of 200 tubes for about $2 and I would be good to go for a week.

But now I'm switching to digital!! But...if I think about it, I was almost ready for a new cig making machine [been through about 4 of them in five years], and a decent one of those these days can run $70 to $80. The starter kit I have ordered from Steve at Puresmoker, plus some extra cartridges, only ran me $67 with shipping.

So...it sounds like I've gotten off pretty easy [not sure on the conversion rate from pounds to $], but....what is the smarter option? Buy a $80 machine to have to sit there and manufacture my own cancerous death, or a $50 or so electronic device where I don't have to do anything and will live longer doing so?

I will admit tho, I have come to view the use of e-liquid as being like the e-cig counterpart to 'rolling your own'. That's fine, that's my style anyways....do it yourself and save some hard-earned cash!
