First Post and Upgrading to a VV/VW Box Mod

Hi there.

First post, and glad to a part of the forum.

I've been vaping for about 4 months now, while still occasionally smoking actual cigarettes on the side.

I recently decided to get more involve and purchased an eLeaf iStick 50w, a Kangertech Subtank Mini, a charging cable, and some replacement .5ohm OCC coils from an online distributor. It should arrive by Thursday of this week,

This is an upgrade from an eGo-C Twist and an iClear 16 VV/VW.

I am wondering what all is entailed in getting this setup ready for use? With my previous setup, I would just add my juice and be good to go. I believe there is some priming of some sort involved with the new products? What does that involve.

Also, I prefer to support small local business as much as I can, so I'll be buying my juices locally. My regular shop makes their own juices, but I do not know the PG/VG ratio. Is there anything in particular I should be asking for with their juices as far as a ratio goes? From my research into the devices, I've seen most prefer to vape at anywhere from 19-25 watts with the subohm coils, if that helps with a ratio that's necessary. Also wondering what kind of nicotine level I can tolerate within reason and avoid causing harm to the new device. I am mostly interested in flavor, and not as much vapor production, but I am not opposed to blowing clouds either.

I have found myself purchasing mostly tobacco flavored juices to try and replicate that cigarette feeling. I believe that has a lot of to do with why I'm still smoking cigarettes when I purchased this with the intention of giving it up. Can anyone recommend some flavors for me to use to try and curb that? I want this to feel different from smoking a traditional cigarette, and make it a more enjoyable hobby.

Thanks for the help.

Welcome - I think do whatever keeps you not smoking and happy. :)

I mostly vape "tobacco" style flavours. It amazes me how often less experienced vapers (in shops, usually) seem to think this is funny or newbie. I actually prefer a non-sweet or non-fruit flavours most of the time.

There is no chance I am going back to smoking, the liquids don't taste like a cigarette (not really) nor do I like to smoke. People don't seem to go back to smoking just because they like tobacco styles.

Most folk find a group of flavours that suits them, I like citrus, others prefer dark fruits or sweets or caramels or.... well the choices are endless.

I vape at less than 15w with the Subtanks. The 0.5ohm coil tends to get higher power, I can understand that. :)

Hi and welcome. First, you do understand that the kanger sub tank works basically like a dripper except you fill the tank with liquid. Meaning this is a mouth to lung inhale.

In a tank like this I recommend high VG. I only vape 100% VG and organic. Less PG means less flavor but also means less throat hit and waaaay more vapor.

This tank is awesome and has now become my daily user. I would also look into making your own coils as the OCC ones are rebuildable.

My juice recommendation would be velvet cloud. www.velvetcloud.com they're phenomenal and the flavors are very very good

Welcome DOTP4 :)

I have a couple of Subtank Nanos and have been toggling between the 1.2 and 0.5 ohm coils. Priming is merely making quite sure that the cotton has sufficient liquid absorbed before trying to fire. Burnt cotton has a nasty taste and the only way to get rid of it would be to rewick the coil (and possibly dump the tank of juice if it's been tainted.)

I'm running higher VG juices in the subtanks. Just gets me that "fuller, denser" cloud somewhat like a dripper. I get or make max VG (which ends up being probably 70-80% VG)

Love my iStick 50 with the Nano. Regarding juices, I've not been much of a tobacco-flavored fan. Sometimes they're too ashy; sometimes their too floral-y. I have been vaping lots of vanillas, fruits, and chocolates. You don't mention what nic level you're using. Might you want to try a bit higher to see if you can edge off those last few smokes?

Side note - don't get hung up on what levels OTHER people set their vapes. You don't know the type of juice they're running; you don't know what airflow setting they are running - both of these factors can lend to juice burning if you crank too high. You have to find what works for *YOU*. Start low (especially when breaking in a new coil) and nudge your way up the power chain. On a new coil, I will start around 10-12 for the first couple of hits. Then start bumping little by little until I get where I want to be.

Good Luck - I hope you like your new setup.

Just install your new coil and then dry hit it. Don't press the power button and just act like you're vaping it... Do thus four or five times and you're good to go

When starting with a fresh coil, I always drop a few drops of juice straight into the new coil to make sure it's saturated. It doesn't take much, just 2-3 drops on the visible wicking material. Then I fill the tank, screw everything together, wait a couple of minutes, and then fire that baby up. Always works for me! Good luck...

hello deathoftheparty4 im new too I have the istick 50w and vape using my iclear 30 but I bought a kanger subtank to try sub ohming I can not get used to the change in use so I use the iclear 30 when I bought the tank I also bought some ejuice ive been making my own with a nic content of 10 0r 12mg but the guy behind the counter told me that to vape sub ohm I have to reduce the nic as this will not be good for vapeing as sub ohming is more about the flavour so I bought 3mg and 6mg 70/30 in favour of vg juice as I said above im struggling to get used to sub ohming so I used the juice in my iclear 30 and did not notice the drop in nic this is mainly due to the flavour of the juice as I bought new Zealand story and dragon claw both made by zuis juice the throat hit is strong and amazing flavour even at 3mg I started vapeing tobaccos at first and like you I was smoking cigerettes too until I discovered the flavoured brands and I have not touched a cig for over a year and I do not miss it

Awesome. My vape mail came in a day early and I've been vaping on this setup all day. Loving the Sugar Bear I picked up earlier, but will want to try one of the other favors I picked up today once this tank is done.

Anything in particular I need to do when I'm changing flavors out? I'll be going from a desert to a coffee flavor, so I think it will be drastic and something will need to get done to the wick.

Thanks again for the help. Loving the setup right now and kicking myself for not doing it earlier.
