Hey guys,
I've been around here for awhile but mostly just to gather information. I've never really needed to ask any specific questions because of the (often overwhelming) amount of information available here; but, now I want to post in the Reo forum (and I'm not allowed to do so yet), so I'm starting here!
Here's my story: never really smoked that much, maybe a couple cigarettes a day. I enjoyed them, especially on poker nights, etc. but hated the smell, the cough, the potential health consequences... so, as a gadget geek it was pretty much inevitable that I end up with a vaporizer of some sort.
I started off with an NJoy that was available locally, and appreciated the potential but it just wasn't anywhere near powerful enough. (I still remember showing it to one of my chain-smoker buddies who took a drag, then exhaled a very small amount of vapor, rolled his eyes at me, and handed it back as if to say "yeah, great, I'll stick with my cig thanks.")
I eventually did more research and ended up with an Ego-T kit, which was when vaping as a "hobby" really took off for me. I discovered legitimate vapor production but more importantly the thrill of trying new flavors of e-juice (as opposed to the crappy tobacco-flavored cartos in the NJoy.) Recently, I bit the bullet and got a Reo Mini, which is a whole new (expensive!) world to enter not just because of what a great device it is but also because it is so flexible. Suddenly, everything I read here, from atomizers vs. cartos, to "condom fill", drip tips and battery safety... it all immediately came into play. The problem is, you won't know what you really like until you try it, and that means spending a bunch of money. (I picked up a Reo Grand last week, so my current quest is finding the best batteries to try a higher voltage than the "default" 18650 batteries.)

So, my lesson to any "true" newbs out there: the expense of vaping comes not from what you HAVE to have... it comes from all the things you'll WANT to have but only some of which are actually as good as other people make them out to be. A large part of that is all the flavors you'll have to buy to find the ones you truly love, but different atomizers and cartomizers at different resistances (is that a word?!) get pretty expensive too. (Even the time and money spent on maintenance and keeping your stuff clean can be substantial.) But, unless you're lucky enough to have friends into vaping... the only way to know what works for YOU is to buy and try. To me, vaping is not just a substitute for cigarettes - it is a hobby in its own right.
TL;DR: I'm pretty sure this damn forum has cost me well over $1000 this year alone, and I don't regret it one bit.
Thanks to all!
