Just wanted to make my first post here and say hi. My member name is RRT because that's what I am- a Registered Respiratory Therapist. At least 80% of the people I treat on a daily basis at the hospital where I work are suffering and dying from cigarette smoking. Talk about an ironic job to have and be a smoker... needless to say I need to quit. I'm 27 years old and have a wife, 2 kids, and another coming in June. I'm not going down in a cloud of my own demise like these poor suckers laying around me hacking up their lungs. Nope, not me.

SO...I found this forum when I got interested in e-cigs as a potential stop smoking aid, and in one long night of reading I'd made a decision of what could work for me. I got my Joye eGo Thursday from a seller recommended on this site- puresmoker, and it came fast. Also got some extras and stuff from Vapor King, came even faster.

I watched several Youtube vids and the series for broke newbs by mistress nomad and that's why I got the extra accessories- to make my vaping as versatile as possible. Got some carts, empty cartos, pre-filled cartos, a drip tip...

First impressions- very glad I got it. Direct dripping and using the drip tip is a lot of fun so far. Simple and effective, not messy, produces good vapor. I have to chuckle to myself, I worked a 16 hour shift the first day I got the e-cig and never once went out for a smoke. It was so funny, I'd get in the elevator, the door would close, and I'd whip it out for a quick puff before the doors flew open again. I imagined people wondering why it smelled like cherry cola when they stepped onto the elevator. The carts are disappointing. I filled one with about 15 drops and it lacks vapor, throat hit, almost like it needs way more juice, but I didn't want to overflow it. I got genuine 510 cartos and filled one with this amazing peachy menthol- the carto is way better than the cart in my opinion, but it's kinda leaky. I only put .8ml in it and it was dripping out the battery end, which worried me since I read about frying batteries (even though my eGo's manual.) Plus when I switch cartos to change what flavor I vape, the other one has to get the little rubber caps on both ends, then when I switch back I gotta pull the caps off, stow them somewhere, wipe all the leaked juice from the mouthpiece and thread ends... it's just more of a pain than I imagined it'd be.

Anyway, I just wanted to say hi, and I'm excited and hopeful that this will help me kick the habbit for good. By the way, I've had the eGo for 4 days, and I finished my last 8 real cigarettes and that's it in those 4 days, and don't plan to buy more.

Thanks for listening.
Brandon

Welcome, Brandon - sounds like you're well on your way! Amazing, isn't it? I don't have an eGo, but most manual batteries are sealed, so juice shouldn't leak down into them. After filling cartomisers, give them a good shake - there is also a technique called the "Taryn Spin" (named after user Taryn who first discovered it), where you put newly-filled cartos in a battery bag, sock, etc. and spin them to distribute the juice. Then gently blow any excess juice through from the mouth end into a paper towel. Some searching here will yield a number of good refilling techniques.

Best of luck!

Hi, Brandon! Welcome to ECF! I'm a former EMT(P)/CRTT and I found it ironic that about half of the people I worked with were smokers. I always felt like such a hypocrite giving nebulizer treatments to patients who smoked, and in the back of my pointy little head I knew that if I didn't quit I was going to end up being one of those patients. I felt like I was a slave to the cigarette! When I first started vaping, I just wanted something I could use in the house because our lease has a no indoor smoking clause. I didn't plan on quitting, but that's what happened and I couldn't be happier about it! It's been 5 months since my last cigarette!

Filling cartos takes a little practice and a little patience, but I think they're worth it! If I'm using standard cartos, I only put 20-25 drops in them, let them sit for 15-30 minutes and they usually don't leak at all. I drip about 95% of the time and use cartos when I'm away from home running errands or in places where dripping isn't convenient.

Do you use a 510 or ego? I am under the impression genuine Joye cartos might be different from others in the way they are filled. I thought a syringe was required, because looking at it there's no way I could get "drops" into that tiny little hole. As I said, I put .8mls in there, as recommended by a youtube vid of a dude that seemed fairly intelligent on the subject.

*thinking back to RT school to remember how many drops is in 1ml. lol...

Hello and welcome - there are a number of vendors and sites that have the sig counters. One site that has a collection of them is E-Cig Wiki down at the bottom of their page. If you find a member's sig counter that you like, usually you can just click on their counter and it will take you to the site where one can be created.

Good luck and, again, welcome.

Genuine Joytech cartos I've seen need a sharp syringe to fill. And there are CE2 based cartos that are reservoir ones and use a flexible syringe. And standard cartos (Like Boge and SLB make) with stuffing inside and I get soft-cap ones so I can drip a bit of jucie in whenever the vapor gets light. I get cartos mostly at LiteCigUSA.net and nHaler has some interesting ones I haven't tried.

Blueberry, I don't know what all that means, sorry, but I assume different resistance = more or less heat, vapor, heavier or lighter hit... I will definitely be checking out all the different options before I settle in, I'm sure. What is it you like about the ones you mentioned?

To the one that asked if I'm an oncology nurse... I'm a Registered Respiratory Therapist, not a nurse. I'm just for the airways and lungs, pretty much. If you need breathing treatments (nebulizer therapy) that's me. Inhalers, me. Ventilators (aka "breathing machines"), that's me. CHF, COPD, lung cancer, cystic fibrosis, pneumonia, tuberculosis... me me me me me me me. Oh, and when you stop breathing or your heart stops and they call CODE BLUE and a team of people come running in the room and start chest compressions while shoving a tube down your throat to breathe for you, that's me too.
