They can get really hot when not enough juice is getting to the coil, which can happen because the wick has clogged up. Normally, the juice keeps the coil a lot cooler.

So what could I do in this case?

Cleaning (or replacing) the wick should restore the juice flow.

Lol. I had pulled an old one apart, the wick was solid black and stuck....guess it was a goner. Thank you.
