For some reason I've had pretty good luck with SS and haven't looked back. The taste of a silica dry hit is about the worst thing for me, and SS seems to deliver quite a bit more vapor.

I find it much easier to wrap a coil around the SS wicks, too, as they are rigid. I used to use the drill bit method for both silica wicks and SS wicks but now I find if you can wrap the coil directly around the wick you get much better contact which means better performance.

I haven't tried this stuff yet but it's all the rage right now -

Very nice! I can't offer much advice because I'm also a noob when it comes to RBAs and your attempt looks as good, if not better, than mine! I know how much pain you had to go through with the first go at RBAs, so congrats on getting that done!

I just wrapped one of those last night, is working really well, my ss is a little to tight I think on my wick. On my solid ss wick I always get a hotspot by positive post. I have tried to tighten coil, loosen coil, bump wick around. I'll get it close but not perfect... Last time I played with the ss wick I had the hole coil hot from post to post. I'll figure it out one of these days, I just need more time to sit down and mess with it.

took me awhile but i can wrap a coil real fast now with minimal tweaking. Really just make sure you oxidized well and keep the coil tight to the mesh wick but not squeezing the wick digging in. When you fire it up with juice let it run a bit and check for hot spots during vapor. If you see one then you are gonna get a nasty taste and a huge throat hit of doodoo.
