Just got an igo-L in the mail today and picked up a Magneto at the local shop's grand opening today. I tried my hand out at a first coil and it read 1.2 on my Provari v2.5. Then I put it on the Magneto and it fired a time or two then one of the leads broke on the coil. I'm just wondering what I did wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

sound like the coil wasnt wrapped even enough or spaced out correctly or one of the leads to the post was longer then the other.. in an rba coil everything must be balanced, the wraps the same tension, the spacing even and the legs or leads to the post close to the same length.

when you try again dont wet it and dont hold the button just pulse fire it to bring it to glowing it should glow evenly (or very close) if you see one coil or lead getting red before everything else you need to fix it. when the coil glows evenly fill and go but on a mech with a fresh battery make sure it is real good and wet becuase at 1.2 ohms those first few hits are gonna be big lol

Thanks all. Sorry about putting it in the wrong forum.

Thrasher, do you have any tips or recommended videos on making coils? I just wrapped it around the silica (2mm) but I'll probably use a nail next time. Also, would you do the testing on a mechanical? I'm just paranoid about something going wrong with the mech as I just got it today.

i use a paperclip and wrap it pretty snug when you pull the clip its usually just about right. i do it on the mod or if over 1.2 ohms on the provari.

the only thing to worry about with a mech is if you hold the button on a shorted coil too long you may collapse a spring (if it has one) but with a magneto i dont see it happening as the button stops firing the second you let it go just a couple quick presses and hold it a little longer each time till you see the glow starting and your sure nothing is shorting or getting hot..

I got a cheap a** mech POS just for nothing else but to test coils

You may want to shoot for a bit higher ohms, so can fire it on your Provari for the first few builds. While super low resistance is part of the draw of mechanical mods, you can F--- some S--- up if you do something wrong.

The learning curve of drippers isn't very long. I can wrap a working coil on a silica wick pretty quickly now, but when I first started, it was a total PITA.
