First RBA Builds

The very first issue I had when I tried my first RBA build.... I used the screwdriver that came with it to wrap the coil, and couldnt find anything small enough to stabilize the coil while screwing it down. The only thing that fit it....was the screwdriver....
Rewrapped it on a qtip and everything was smooth after that.

Another issue was trying to get something closer to the premade coils for my subtank, and not being able to get a coil below 1.4 ohms. Couldnt figure out how to run a dual coil in that tiny RBA deck and my parallel coils always tend to look like garbage(although they work decent.) After watching about a million videos on youtube I decided to try a twisted coil. 5 wraps I believe with twisted 28g kanthal came to .7 or .8 on my eleaf. vaping it at 25 watts like a dream.
Now if I could just find that happy place with my first RDA. Dual twisted coils is a bit much for my istick 50. Reads at .4 ohm and I need to rock it basically maxed otherwise the ramp up time is just way too long....

Thanks. My main issue has been with the wicks. Using Japanese cotton and just couldn't get it right. After some very frustrating attempts I changed the position of my coil and now seem to have got it sussed. As my wife was telling me, it's all practice.
Ps. Cheated with the coil wrapping though with a kuro concepts gadget. Lovely tight coil.

Wicking is always the touchy part, as generally a kanthal coil, even if poorly made, will still end up heating from the center out, unless of course there's a short somewhere.

Different tanks require different types of wicking, so as you play with different RTAs you'll grow accustomed to the various styles (Kayfun, Orchid, etc.) and what type of tank needs what wicking style.

Good luck, and welcome to the world of rebuildables!

I cut my teeth on a KFL+ for a good 2 weeks before I got it working consistently, but it's been clear sailing ever since. The most important thing I learned is that larger ID coils with fewer wraps perform much better for me. In the beginning, I kept trying to use a ~10 wrap 1/16" micro-coil, which simply would not support the wattage I wanted to vape at. Finally, I upped the diameter to 5/64", then to 3/32", and reduced my wraps down to 7 and got the performance I wanted.

Hopefully, you won't have to struggle as much as I did, because the fact that one has to empty out the KFL+ in order to rebuild it can get really frustrating.

Even with the videos/posts reviewed, I wasted about 4 ft of wire before finally getting the Lemo working where I want. 29 ga, 8 wraps @ 1/16. NOW it's fun and gratifying! :D
The only beefs with the Lemo is the air flow moving about and the fill hole screw so small. Thank goodness in holds 5 ml! Has anyone come up with a way "tighten" down the air adjuster? Was thinking about taking apart and seeing if I could get some teflon tape on the the threads.

Your wife is absolutely correct. Every rebuild gets a little easier, no matter what type of rba.

After doing it awhile you don't even think about it anymore.

KFL is a pretty decent stable tank and is a great starting point

Still using mine and I've had it since they came out. Finally broke down and got a k4 coming

My early experiences with the Kayfuns were great other than some wicking issues with some clones having liquid channels that were too small. Cellucotton/Rayon would be a suggestion as well as making a small channel down through your wick so a little light can be seen from the liquid channels.

The only beefs with the Lemo is the air flow moving about and the fill hole screw so small.
Try a tiny 0-ring on the stem the AFC turns on with the AFC back up against the o-ring. I use the silicone ring stopper. Catfish rock!

I got a Kayfun Lite Plus about 5 months ago and I've gotten 5 more since then. Once you work out the wicking, it gets easy. They've become my favorite vape. I've been experimenting lately with different resistances ( wraps, diameters, etc) trying to get the best flavor out of my juices. I'm currently trying high resistance (2-2.4 ohms) because I use around 12 wraps for that. gives me plenty of surface area for juice to vaporize and my iStick 50 can handle the power requirements.

Picked up the RBA base for my eGrip because the stock coils just didn't seem to wick well enough for my heavy use. Had the guy at the shop I bought it from show me how to build a coil.

Didn't have all the nifty tools they have when it came time to build another coil, so my first attempt ended up being too big for the small enclosure. But the second one worked fine. My coils are ugly as hell, but I don't need anything pretty as long as it does what I want it to do.

I'm so glad to see someone else posted about doing your first coils. I'm having the opposite problem though... My coils are so neat and tight, I'm getting too low ohms. I had to redo my Patriot RDA and finally the 3rd time it came out to .8 ohms. I do have a question about cotton wick. I was sent just one cotton square and I put a lighter to it, and it just burned up! Well, that's not good. So, I've been using another wick material instead. Why do you think the cotton just burns up?
