First RBA experience

I've been vaping for years, but have never had the desire to try to build my own. Yesterday when I headed to Vapetoberfest, I decided it was time to try one out.

I picked up a Nimbus dual post head at my buddy's recommendation...$40 show special price. I didnt want to get too crazy for my first mechanical so I picked up a K100 for another $40. Some wire and some 3.0 ekowool for a few bucks and a new teflon/steel drip tip from OKC vapes.

I had an expert build my first two coils so I could watch and learn. So involved! I learned a lot by watching him, and left him a nice tip :)

Overall I like it, even for what I have been told is a very basic entry level set-up. My buddy bored out my air holes for me as well so I'm getting an nice rich hit. Building the coils seemed like a pain in the .... but I actually find I like the tinkering. I don't know that this is replacing my ProVari mini / Carto daily driver, but for sitting around the house on the weekend I'm loving the Nimbus RBA.

Congrats on the purchase. I just recently went from vaping strictly out of tanks (evods and protanks mainly) to mech mods and RDA's. I didn't think I'd like building my own coils but you're right, the tinkering is actually apart of the fun. Since my switch, I have only used my RDA's....the flavor/vapor/experience difference is too significant for me to look back.

I'm with you...my daily driver tends to be a ProVari mini, LR Boges and an IBTanked carto tank. It always works. I like tinkering too...started with an RDA...an IGO W, I think. Then I got an AGA T+ genesis style atomizer. I got both of those working really good but I don't like dripping very much and the gennie is so position dependent. Tilting and worrying about it being straight up and down when not in use. That doesn't fit into my daily grind. I tear down buildings so there's a lot of moving around and bouncing going on in my world. Cartos and tanks work well for me. On weekends and at the end of the day, I like messing around with that stuff...seeking the perfect vape, but that doesn't seem as important, nor is it convenient when I'm working. About a month ago, I bought a Kayfun Lite. That thing is awesome. It's really the best of both worlds. I like micro coils and a cotton wick. The taste is amazing and the build is easy. A 1-1.2 ohm coil works well on my ProVari and the tank holds 4 mls +. It's not finicky at all. I use it at work...but I keep a carto tank ready. I'm thinking about trying the Ithaka next....heard great things and apparently I hate having any money! My current setups deliver all the pleasure one would need from vaping....I just can't seem to get to the point where I think enough is enough. Oh well, beats the hell out of smoking!

Now you went and done it! You've opened up a whole world of rebuildables. You are just on the tip of great vapes to come;-)
It's entertaining as all get out to see someone who's been vaping on clearos n' such take a lung hit off an RDA (or even an RBA) the first time. Eyes get wide... big shiz-eating grin. Fun stuff! ;-)

Then you have to teach them to build coils without drawing blood. :p

Ive poked my self more than once setting up NR/R wire coils. Its a process and not for everyone. If youed of showed me a Ithaka or a kayfun even a geny when I first started vaping Id of laughed at you and told you your touched who would spend 300$ on something you DIY!

Funny how a few bits of metal and glass can be so expensive. Sometimes... I dream of the days I still owned DRO lathe and mill.

P.S. whats the distinction between RDA and RBA? Same thing, just different terms or something different entirely?
RDA is a dripping atomizer - RBA is a tank type atomizer. There are many kinds of RBAs... the genesis type with a wick coming up from a tank to an RDA style coil post arrangement, then the Kayfun and... woo, so many types I can't list them all. ;-)

Re
Buildable
Atomizer
This was first and encompasses things like genys string attys like the Ody, Ithy and Kayfun

The
Rebuildable
Dripping
Atomizer
Describes more of what you have.

Now just to make it more confusing there are some that are able to be configured as a string, geny, dripper and a spheriod type

Thanks, thats make perfect sense. I guess I have an RDA and not an RBA,where as my buddy's Genesis tank is an RBA. Thanks for the clarification!

Hehe, same here. I'm only 3 months into vaping, but it seems like every day there's something new I absolutely have to order just to try out. I'm plenty happy with what I've got, but I have yet to dive into the mechanical mod pool. Just starting to get into RBAs - I've been taught how to build 'em, but am awaiting the arrival of a couple of IGO-Ls and ohm meter to put my knowledge to the test.

No problem chief... you can spend a day just searching for all the variations of RBAs. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but the latest "thing" (no doubt soon to be cloned and sold for $29.95 by FT), is the Squape.

I hate to always be that guy but please make sure you are using batteries that can handle the amp load demand you might be putting on them with RDAs Ohm's Law Calculator this makes it easy to figure out what your doing

Thank you for being 'that guy' - that link is going to be very handy, very soon!
