Make sure the wire is touching as much of the wick as posable the wick ! If not this can lead to hot spots or red coils did u wrap the wire free had or use a drill bit ??
Ive had similar issues with a IGO-l and cant seem to ever get a reply on this forum so my apologies to the OP for hijacking...
I use a thread needle...28g kanthal and ekowool too.. i seem to not be able to get away from a throat burn....should the coils be tighter on the wool or loose?...also what are micro coils? ....should I give up and mess with SS wick and a AGA.T-2? I really want to continue this journey into MMs and rebuiding but it just seems like a hassle and letdown...

Papadragon.. tried it free hand. After watching the guy at my local b&m. Looked easy enough. I need to pick up some more wire and I'll try it again. The wraps might be a little loose since I didn't want to wrap them too tight. Thank you for the feedback. I didn't see any hot spots when I fired it up after hitting it with meter. Just noticed one coil heating up quickly and the other a little slower.

Wrap the coils around a drill bit hook up the coils with the drill bit still in there slid bit out use a piece of wire fold over the wick and slide it threw the coils !!!! That will fix all your problems try useing cotton for wicks 2 u mite like it

The one coil heating up first is a hot spot look at the drill bit method I was talking about in the post above !!!

When doing dual coils, it's best to cut two identical lengths of wire, then try to keep them well, the same lengths, to get them to fire up evenly. If one coil glows faster than the other, it means that side has lower resistance than the other (however slight). Adjust from there until they both fire up evenly.

Hoofhearted. I was getting 1.8

2.5mm silica with 32ga kanthol 5 wraps over a sewing needle, freehand wrap give me 1.9-2.3 ohms. I wrap 1 side of the wick and leave the tail to overlap for the flavor wick. then trim to egde of the base.

heres my vid of it.
