I need some recommendations for a tank setup for when on the go that will provide me with good plumes, flavor, and not leak. I'm using a VV setup (one of the many lava tube clones out there), and I have idea whether a cartomizer, or atomizer setup is best to start with. I don't want to spend a fortune in case it isn't for me either. I've been looking at the Vivi Novas, and smok Tech tanks, thoughts?

I got a phiniac tank just because it was so hyped and actually don't regret having tried others. It's my only tank so far and it has NEVER leaked. I also got the xxx-kit (forgot the name - its about $20) whic has this driptiplike tool that makes filling tanks a piece of cake. dont forget that you gonna need stainless steel (!!!) cartos because (at least in mine) those with black body won't work

Where you least expect it....
Main reason why a cartomizer tank would leak would be due to flooding. Some aren't careful enough when they either punch or slot their cartomizers. So, that leads to the center tube being punctures. Allowing excessive amounts of e-liquid inside.

Another would be over filling a cartomizer before putting it into a tank. Punching too much holes or making the slots a bit too big would also be another factor to take into account.

If you are careful during these processes then you don't have to worry about leaking.

Cartomizers would be a great starting point. Since they are cheap and relatively easy to use. Some vendors allow you to buy a single cartomizer. Which gives you a chance to try out several different kinds to see which one you like the best.

If you have anymore questions then please ask.

Alternative to the Vivi Nova is the Smoktek Titan clearo tank, also referred to as the Screw Tank. I had refrained from trying a Vivi or clearo style tank prior to getting the Titan because all the entries had polycarbonate plastic tubes, which I personally have been avoiding because of the issues that plastic has with juices.

When I saw that the new Smoktek clearo tank had a polypropylene tube, I said to myself that maybe Smoktek is finally getting it, and ordered two of these from SMOK TiTaN™ Clearo Modular Tank : GotVapes.com, E-cigarette Supplies - Atomizers Cartomizers Mods Juice and more

5+ ml capacity tank, screw-off top, removable mouthpiece, metal endcaps (ss?), bottom feeding rebuildable clearo head. $13 each. Available in clear frosted or frosted color polypropylene tubes. Both of mine were the frosted clear tubes (see pic above on a BB). Tank diameter is same as a Provari or BB.

The threading on these I found to be rather impressive for such an inexpensive tank; a metal ring with threading to match the top cap circles around both ends of the tube, so there is a metal to metal connection between the tube and endcaps. The Vivi has a plastic to metal connective threading, so the Smoktek tank may be more durable in this respect, with frequent use possibly wearing the plastic threading on the Vivi's.

Impression: Easy to fill, easy to clean. Plenty of vapor, no flavor muting noted, no leaks, no flooding or dry hits, after about a weeks use on two tanks. $13 each, nice value. The metal endcaps have a dull finish, a polished finish would look more classy on most mods in my opinion.

If you have experience with cartos I don't see any reason not to get a quality Pyrex tank such as a Phiniac. This provides the same carto experience but keeps the party going for much longer which minimizes how often you have to refill. When you do have to refill it is much quicker than filling a carto in my experience. Getting Pyrex like in a Phiniac ensures you won't ever have to worry about a juice destroying your tank and they are extremely rugged and we'll designed/built.

If not, a Vivi Nova 2.5 is a good option as you just fill it and go. For a noob, it doesn't get any easier than swapping out the atomizer every few weeks. The major con is that it isn't glass and it certainly isn't that we'll built or have the greatest materials, but it makes up for it with a super cheap and reasonable price point. For me, I don't find the draw very satisfying and it seems to mute flavors quite a bit which is why I prefer cartos - Bogegate et all.

Thanks for all the replies and advice guys, I think I'm going to try a pyrex tank setup and see how it goes. I've heard to not leave them laying on their side as they might leak, that they need to be placed vertical, is that true?

Absolutely not true. There is no logical reason not to put them on their side.

The Phiniac tank line is certainly top of the line, but they can be pricey. If you'd like to try a cheaper pyrex tank for your first entry into tanking, I have a couple of recommendations.

Valley View Vapes sells a 4ml and 7ml pyrex tube for $13 and $15, respectively. The 7ml tank is the largest capacity pyrex tank that I know of. These will come with silicone grommets in place of endcaps. They will function in this setup, however to fill them with juice you would need to use a blunt needle and syringe inserted between the grommet and tube/carto. I'd highly recommend getting the plastic delrin end caps for around $19 to replace the grommets. The tank then can be filled like any other carto tank.

So, a large capacity pyrex tank for under $35. (Side note: the vendor is currently OOS of the endcaps, but should have them in soon) For $10 more, he offers the first pyrex tank with a side hole filling screw - the Sidewinder tank.

I would take the offer for the free one if I was you! It will get you started.

If you are going with glass, I have a Phiniac I adore, but bought it with the filling tool so it is easy also. I also really like the vivi novas and use them with my eGo for out of the house. I wouldn't want to take a chance with my precious Phiniac getting broken while out and about.

The OCD pyrex tanks from IBTanked have the least expensive pyrex tanks available. These are narrow tubes while the above Triple V tubes are wide. So from a looks only perspective, the OCD will look better on skinnier mods, and the Triple V will look better on larger mods.

Clear glass tubing starts out at a whopping $5. For $5 more the possibilities start getting interesting. The tubes can be custom ordered with a special paint for pyrex that is kiln-fired for durability.

Stainless steel endcaps are available in three finishes for $19. So you can pickup a clear pyrex tank for under $25. I don't know the juice capacity of these. A couple of ECF people here have these and like them a lot, you can see them on the thread, "Quest for pyrex tanks" in the tank subforum.
