Cartomizer models can give a pretty big hit of vapor. And when you first start vaping any PV, the vapor will seem harsher at the start than it will a couple of days later. Within weeks you may be searching for that TH. Maybe the cartos Smoketip sells are filled with the somewhat harsh 100% PG Dekang juice?

This person says Smoketip is a KR808D-1

Maybe try some of these cartos. Note though - some will be in Coolcarts (I like those) and some in the hotter cartos (what they call Premiums). I am pretty sure the 555 tobacco in the WOW Tobacco sampler is in a Coolcart and both my boss and I liked that. In any case, this may be better quality ejuice than what's in Smoketip's cartos. The Coolcarts, to me, gave a nice feel and a more cigarette-like draw.

Thank you (and everyone else too) for your response. What a wonderful support/advice group! And I can tell I'm gonna need ya...:)

For one thing in the "need ya" department, you and several other contributors mentioned that there are alternatives to the cartomizers that come as standard equipment with the SmokeTip kit. (You and at least one other poster mentioned Vapor4Life.) Although I'm making progress with the "mouth inhale" approach (thanks everyone!), I may want to explore other cartomizers as I go along.

So here's another newbie question: since the SmokeTip system involves a threaded attachment between cartomizer and battery, is that a "standard" thread count of other brands of cartomizers, or does it vary among manufacturers of cartomizers? You can see my (potential) problem. I'd hate to lay out the bucks for another cartomizer brand, only to find that it doesn't fit my SmokeTip battery.

Thanks in advance!

(Rut roh... I intended this as a reply to lampshadeburglar, but for some reason it ended up down here as a general thread response. Need to get the hang of posting protocol... sorry!)

Good morning! SmokeTip was the first kit I used and the cartomizers from Vapor4Life are compatible. As Dormouse said, they are a kr808d-1 battery (thread). There are several vendors that sell cartomizers for that model. One thing I noticed about SmokeTip is their cartomizers (or whatever prefilled juices they put in them) where terribly inconsistent. Some packs I received where great tasting and no harshness to them. Others were so nasty and harsh they made me cough like you were describing in the first post. I was having that problem back in July-August and assumed they had corrected the problem. But, I just read a post recently that stated the problem is still there.

So, I would not hesitate in suggesting that you pick up some empty cartomizers from either Vapor4Life, Liberty-Flights, or another vendor. Then, pick a few different liquids with varying nicotine levels and PG/VG ratios to see what works best for you. I hope this helps you out.

edit: If you decide on using Vapor4Life there is a 10% off coupon code you can use. "SMILIN"

Here is a link to some others: CouponCodes

I'm not convinced that it's a matter of PG/VG ratio or anything else. In my experience it was just a particular juice flavor. I have a few juices now that I really like a lot - 2 of which are "tobacco" flavors. I had absolutely no problem with either of them. Then I got a carto filled with another tobacco flavor and it was soooo strong that it makes me cough and hurts my chest. Needless to say, I gave that one to my husband and he's fine with it. Just like an analog cigarette, there are some that are harsher than others. You may just need to try a tobacco flavor juice that isn't as harsh.

(Edit: I meant to mention, the pg/vg was the same ratio in all my juices, so that was *not* the issue for me)

You're right. It may not be the PG or VG ratio that is the problem. But, SmokeTip has had a long term problem with its prefilled cartomizers and, please believe me when I say this, they can be horrid if you get a bad batch. I ordered the same flavor w/ the same nicotine level every time. I never knew when I opened each package whether I was going to completely enjoy it or if I was going to cough a lung out and want to vomit over the taste. I definitely would have "thrown in the towel" as the OP stated if I hadn't found ECF and realized there was something sooo much better out there. Given my (and other posted) experiences with them, I would guess that is the problem. Then again, maybe they have fixed their problems recently and all of their cartos are great.

If not, CPMariner, you might be sensitive to PG or may have some of the typical symptoms related to adjusting to vaping and/or quitting smoking. The suggestions to try different suppliers, cartomizers, and nicotine and PG/VG ratios are good ones to determine where the problem stems from.

After reading this thread I've discovered after 40 years of smoking analogs I was doing it completely wrong. I would always take a drag into my mouth and then inhale. Apparently that is the incorrect way to smoke. I'm hoping that means I'll have less difficulty adjusting to vaping. :)

At the moment I can't comment because my eGo won't be arriving until Monday, at least I hope it will.

Also, do NOT throw your SmokeTip cartomizers away! Get yourself some juice and refil them with it. I started with the SmokeTip and BLECH on the juice taste, but I put up with it for awhile and then added a few drops of juice I liked and all was well with the world. I didn't last very long with the SmokeTip because it's an automatic and got myself a 510 manual. Wow, like night and day, I thought! I am now lending out my SmokeTip to friends that want to try vaping to quit analogs. Only because I have enough cartomizers for them to try out AND they are not patient enough to deal with what it takes to use a 510 with an atty and cart or even filling empty cartomizers. My favorite thing about SmokeTip is the batteries are guaranteed for life, you can't beat that!
Hang in there, you just have to be patient with yourself AND everything you are using. Takes some getting used to and LOTS of practice!

You know, I was thinking the exact same thing when I read this thread. The only thing I ever smoked by inhaling directly into my lungs was mari... err, well - not a cigarette, per se. But for all my 27 years of smoking cigarettes, I always pulled into my mouth and THEN inhaled into my lungs. My gawd, if I'd have been trying to do it the other way (inhale straight to lungs) in the last 10 years or so, I *really* would have never stopped coughing. It had become bad enough the way I was doing it.
