Long story short, I've been struggling with stopping the analogs for the past year due to job stress issues. I started ecigs Nov 2013 by purchasing an MVP2 along with a Protank2 and a few EVODS. I've been using them on and off since then while buying Kanger coil replacements. I've decided to upgrade to a rebuildable. Wanting to just dip my toe in the water I decided to start with a kayfun Lite clone from FT (https://www.fasttech.com/p/1605200). I've placed the order and who knows how long it'll take to actually get it.

Knowing that, I'd like to get started as soon as it arrives. What supplies should I have on hand when it arrives? Replacement screws? (read where they're sometimes soft) O-rings? What sort of wire? Cotton?

And as though those weren't enough questions - what good Youtube videos should I watch prior to receiving my kayfun Lite clone to get me ready for building? Knowing it takes a while to receive products from FT I just want to be prepared when it arrives.

Thanks!

Thanks! I'll definitely start watching some vids (starting with the one you posted). You can wick with standard ole organic CVS cotton balls!? I figured I would have to stock up on some fancy Japanese cotton or somesuch. Thanks so much for the help.

Pbusardo has a great video on wicking materials. Japanese cotton and rayon wick much, much better than normal organic cotton. I'd still get the Japanese cotton since it's not that expensive. Better yet, get some rayon. It's as cheap as cotton and lasts forever.

I did exactly what you are doing. I watched all sorts of rebuilding videos to prepare for my first build when I finally received my Russian 91%. I got it last night and did my first build today.

OMG everything looks so much bigger on TV. I was surprised when I saw how small the build deck was, and the wire and the screws. Everything about it was so small.

It took me a couple hours to do my first micro coil. I'm sure it will get easier and faster with time, but they make it look super easy and fast in the videos.

And the wicking, that took me about a 1/2 hour. Trying to get the cotton through that little tiny hole. I don't think I did the best job. But so far it seems to be working ok. I second guessed everything I was doing and would go back and re-watch an episode on wicking.

It just so happened I had today off and I'm glad I did because it took a little more time than I thought it would. By about 2 hours...lol.

I think its totally going to be worth it though. Just have to get through the learning curve.

Can't wait till you get yours and tell us what you think. Watch up.... It helps!

Thanks for all the great information!

It's good to have spare parts, and in case your clone doesn't come with any, you can get what you need here:

Vaperev Shop - Kayfun Spare O-ring and Replacement Screw Set

Vaperev Shop - Kayfun Replacement Isolators

I'll definitely check this out. From what I've read, spare parts are definitely a good thing to have.

Rikk: Awesome! Definitely let me know how your new build goes. Is it vaping well? I suspect no matter how many vids I watch and research I do it will go poorly the first couple times :)

I've used Japanese cotton and Rayon, and always end up going back to simple old cotton balls.

Personally, I don't even care if they are "Organic" for the sake of being organic, but I've found the consistency of the cotton is better then regular cotton balls.

I use japanese cotton - ordered on amazon 250 pads for $10. Works great, better than CVS organic cotton IMO. If you do go the CVS route, try to get the cotton strips as its easier to work with and easier to get a consistent amount of cotton into your builds.
Kayfun was a tough build to start out with. Even with pbusardo and other youtube videos it takes some time to get it right. I just rebuilt my kayfun 5 min ago, and its a pain even now.. small work space. I'd recommend getting a single coil 2 or 3 post RDA to start out on.. Get your coiling technique down, then move on to the kayfun. The wicking is less complicated on an rda, and you don't have to drain the tank if you put in a horrible build, just pull the cap off, yank the cotton (or coil, whatever is giving you problems) and re do it.
Your MVP2 will have a hard time pushing dual coils, but that doesn't mean you can't get a dual coil RDA, just make sure it has a single airflow option, there are a ton of good options out there, just don't get something too complicated to build. Something like a Trident, Patriot, Cyclone, magma(?) will work great. Stay away from Veritas/Maquis, 454 big block, and other such RDAs that restrict your builds or force you to do vertical coil builds.

Also do some research on ohms law. It will give you an idea of how to do the best build. Steam-engine.org is a great resource for planning your coils.
Be sure and post your builds here (pictures), some of us like to see them :)
ECF is also a great place to ask questions or get critiques if you want any input on how to possibly make it better.

I'd start my build around 1.8-2ohms if I where you.

My building supplies (When I started):
tweezers (helps in all sorts of situations where big fingers just get in the way, working hotspots out of coils, etc)
nail clippers (cutting wire)
scissors (cutting cotton)
Drillbit set (coiling rod)
Micro screwdrivers (philips and standard)

You can get an idea of what you may need based on watching others build.

I am still using my very first Kayfun build that I made over a month ago. It is way easier than you think; wrap them, heat them, squeeze them. My first go at it took less than 10 minutes total from complete tear down, to build, to vape.

Prior to this I had only built (1) Atomic Build, and attempted to rebuild a Kanger T2 just to see if I could (I couldn't, btw).

Wicking is the trickier part and even that is damn near fool proof. This thing just always works. I have had to play around with different wicking lengths and thickness to suit my style but all of them have worked.

You want your wick snug inside of the coil, not too tight, not too loose. Fold it down along the lower deck and it will work.

Hahaha yeah I remember getting my first one and opening it up and thinking 'HOW THE HELL DO THEY DO THIS ITS SO TINY???' the macro pics everyone posts around here make them look huge!! I saw my first Chi You and Caravela clones in person a couple weeks ago and same thing, they look as big as my gigantic Vamo on screen but man those things really arent any bigger than 18650 batteries!!

My first one wasnt quick as well, but give it some practice, youll be able to do it in your sleep. Just remember, if you keep your coils cleaned up and periodically dry burn them (I do it everytime I change a wick about once every week or two) those coils will last a heck of a long time. Ive had the one in my Infinite clone now for almost 2 months I think. Its still vaping as strong as it can!!

Thanks for all the great information! This will definitely come in handy. I hope my first build goes like yours, Just1Fixxx, but I suspect it will probably go more like Rikk's build  But here's hoping! For $10 I may pick up some of the Japanese cotton and also pick up some of the organic cotton balls as well. Just to try out both and see which one I like best. Thanks again.

mine shipped from japan and took a week or so to get here, but some organic cotton balls will hold you over until then (CVS, Walgreens, Target, Walmart.. they prettymuch all carry it) if you don't like the JC, just visit some vape shops - they seem to like it :)

My Kayfun Lite "Styled" (clone) came in the mail today! It's really solid and has some weight to it. Quite a bit heavier than my Protank 2. It came fully assembled. It even had some wicking material inside. I haven't disassembled it yet so I can only assume it also has a coil in it. Not sure I want to vape off some unknown quality/material wick from China. I ended up just going to Walgreens and grabbing a bag of their organic cotton. I also got my Kanthal in this past weekend.

I'm still waiting on my ohm meter from 101Vape. I'm hesitant about building my first coil and trying to use it without being sure that it's correct and at the right ohms. I think the description says it's "optimal" at around 1.8. Not sure how many wraps will get me to that but I'll find out (hopefully soon).

Any suggestions on what I should do while waiting on the meter? Planing on watching more videos and I've read where it's a good idea to completely disassemble it and wash the parts in hot water. Does that include the o-rings as well (while attached)? Or do I pull the o-rings and wash only the metal parts in hot water? Also read that it's a good idea to check it closely for any metal shavings and the like from the manufacturing process.

Thanks and can't wait to start using it!

EDIT: Jut disassembled it. The coil and wick looked like a cheap tiny piece of wire wrapped 3 times around a frayed piece of nylon rope. Threw it away.

I've built 4 coils now, using 28ga Kanthal and 9 wraps around a 5/64 bit gives me about 1.5ohm coil. They're still not as pretty as the ones I see around here, but with each one I build it gets a little better.

If you have a good regulated device with a good board, like a DNA or something similar, it will give you very accurate readings without firing, but you really want to make sure you don't have any shorts; and that's why it's probably best to wait until you have your ohm meter. Safety above all else [emoji6]

Yeah I don't imagine mine are going to look very nice. The videos I've seen make it look so simple! Just wrap it around, heat hit, squeeze it, and voila! Perfect coil! I doubt it - but I can hope.

Right now I have an MVP2. It's probably barely adequate to fire the KFL clone as it is. I'm definitely waiting until the ohm meter comes in. It shipped a couple days ago but since then has been sitting at "Arrived at origin facility" in CA with no updates. Hopefully it's on the way and USPS just hasn't made any updates yet.

Anyone fired one of these on an MVP2? Any suggested settings?

Thanks.

EDIT: Apparently it turns out the MVP2 has a built in ohm reader. D'oh! May be a waste of $15 but the new ohm reader will still be more accurate and provide a nice base for building.

I live 300 miles from the Cali origin point, San Francisco.... Can take Items 3-5 days to get to me from there. FWIW regular first class mail take 1 day to deliver from San Fran. Takes longer for fastech items to get from California port to my house 300 miles, than it generally does to ship from China to California.
