I believe it was 2009 when I saw my first one. I was a lifeguard at a year-round waterpark/resort in northern Ohio... and restrictions on employees smoking were harsh. My co-worker was just standing by the time clock puffing away, when I snatched it from him, tried him and replied with "Chocolate?!?"

Next day I bought a manual Joye 510 3 piece kit that I used for two months but gave up due to my tinkering habits costing more than I was spending on cigarettes. (I can't tell you how many boxes of tea I bought [and subsequently burnt/inhaled] to try and get the PTB mod to work right.)

Many years ago at a mall kiosk. I tried it but didn't buy it because I couldn't afford it for one thing, and another...I was suspicious of it. LOL!

Then, about 3 or 4 years ago, a guy at work started using an ego. I watched him be successful with it over the years, as well as a few others who started using them and I finally felt comfortable that I wasn't going to keel over anytime soon using one, so I bought a disposable to try. I quit cigs the very next day and ordered a kit.

My chest routinely hurt from smoking cigarettes. I wheezed and coughed constantly. It felt like there was a hole in my right lung. I was sick of killing myself every 10-15 minutes. I had never heard of e-cigarettes but, being of the Pepsi Generation, I figured some super company must already be making millions off of them, so I plugged "Electronic Cigarette" into Google and found "Leaford's Reviews" on youtube.

I watched a few of his reviews before I was convinced. I found a tobacco shop in my area that had the 510 model kit. He only had one 510 kit and two generic kits. I wanted to be certain it was a 510 kit because that is what Leaford had, but it didn't say 510 anywhere. I bought it. It turned out to be a white, manual 510 kit with white atomizers and white carts. I loved it. The taste was great too.

I joined this forum (with a different user name) This was back when people were folding tea bags and shoving them into carts and doing all of this weird stuff. I denounced all of the weirdness and decided I was going to be a dripper. Those were simpler times :p

About five years ago I saw someone walking by our table and out of a restaurant.
He was using a Blu as he was walking out, and as he passed our table I asked him what it was.

He told me it was an electronic cigarette, and gave me a Blu card.
I thought it was the stupidest idea I'd ever heard of and threw the card away.

Less than two years later I changed my mind, but actually started with an NJoy NPro.

Just over a year ago, my sister came to visit me from the States. As we got in my car at the airport, she asked if she could use hers. (That was a Mistic.) A few days later, I asked to try it. My girlfriend and I were both impressed. She was gracious enough to loan us batts, cartridges and juice while my Mistic order was on the way. A few weeks later, I found this forum. I lurked, and finally joined in May to ask for recommendations and got a KGO, then converted my sister to larger batts.
A year later, I'm approaching 6 months smoke free, my sis and I both have Provaris, and my GF has my old Silver Bullet. :)

I think the first one I saw in real life was the kGo I ordered online. Most likely I saw them before that but never paid attention to it. Last year when I was on our road trip to California one of my boyfriends uncles friends mentioned how he wanted to try electronic cigarettes because he was a heavy smoker and his doctor wanted him to quit tobacco. We were smoking a lot on that trip and it didn't bother me at the time, but a few months later I was getting sick of the nasty smell of tobacco and having to go outside in the cold to smoke.

I started a thread on a different forum about e cigs and a poster convinced me to try them. I'm much happier vaping!
