First time trying coil rebuilding... protank and 32 AWG kanthal

I've been watching youtube videos for the past 2 days and just got my 32AWG kanthal , silica wika 2mm and 1mm (flavour wick) , im trying to rebuild my protank heads but so far every time i try to do it , the coil either comes out way too big or else its too small and the wires touch... i've managed to come out with .6 and .5 ohm coils whenever i got it to work but that is way too low... im aiming for 1.7-8 ish coils. What tool can i use to make this easier? right now im just building with a pin threaded through my wick and building the coils from there. Any tips?
