Hi

2 questions

1 are you sick? if so, with what symptoms?

2 how much did you smoke, and how do your lungs feel when you use cigs?

We will figue hits out

Steve:cool:

You're all so awesome.

1. Nope...just sick of my clothes smelling like a bar at closing time. ;)

2. I smoke about a pack and a half of American Spirit Ultra Lights, and I have never had a problem. This burning thing is a lot like how I feel when I've smoked way too many cigarettes at a party...or like taking a big hit off a non-filter. But it's like a burning version of that. And if I go back to a regular cigarette, my lungs don't hurt at all.

My throat is fine and my tongue doesn't burn, so I don't think it's the PG. I've tried a bunch of different carts, so it's not a cart thing. If it doesn't get better, I'll get a pack of the VG to see if it is an allergic reaction.

Is there a possibility that the nicotine level is too high? I dunno...I'm grabbing at straws. ;)

You all are fabulous. Thanks for all the great suggestions. I'm smoking it like a cigar, so I'm still enjoying it. I just ordered some more flavors to try, so even if I can't inhale (would that be "vaping Clinton Style"?) I'm still going to enjoy my lovely new toy.

Thanks again for the great tips and support!

glad to hear that your still trying :) i hope it works out for you as it does for so many of us. my first week was a little rough on the throat but not my lungs, did the hold in your mouth then inhale thing till i got used to it but know i prefer to direct inhale......the flavors come out better for me that way. i vape both 24 and 18mg and used to smoke Marlb Menthol Lights, maybe about a pack a day. if it wasn't for being cheep and not wanting to throw away my left over analogs i would have quit them the very first day :)......

Best of luck on finding a solution,
btw im also new here and you get the honors of my first post ;)

Aww..thanks!

So, I gather this isn't normal to start out with it hurting your lungs? I was going to order some lower mg, but maybe I'll wait to see if it's another issue. I'll keep looking!

My Lungs hurt for about a week before I noticed a change..Now I feel absolutely great..I dont know why it happend or what changed but I was using 18mg redcow and It no longer hurts at all...maybe just a transitioning phase for your lungs or something.

I'm six weeks into vaping. When I vaped too much PG, my lungs felt like they were raw and my first vapes in the morning resulted in major coughing fits. I've been on VG based e-juice for a little over a week, and I no longer have raw lungs, no more coughing fits in the morning. I didn't have a sore throat or tongue on PG, just my lungs. The taste of the e-juice is more subdued on VG, but you get clouds of vapor. The combination of the premium cartos and VG is awesome.

I had a problem with this as well. I also didnt think it was pg because everything was fine but my chest (aka lungs). So i figured i was just inhaling wrong. But it was much more satisfying to direct inhale. So i was torn to say the least. I tried vg but was skeptical because vg is sweeter. And i like non sweet tabacco like the dunhall. So i tried it anyway and no more soar lungs. So i think some symptoms from a pg allergy arnt the same for everyone. I think trying VG is the way to go. If it still hurts after that then just give it a couple weeks of token like a stogie. I vape PG VG mix now and love it. Great TH and great Vapor production. I also found i like the flavor better IMO thats more authentic. But if switching to VG doesnt work and after a couple of weeks you still have raw lungs. Try a bunch of flavors. I cant vape virginia because for some reason it makes me sick. And hurts my throat? Might be certain flavorings. Hang in there I think it will only get better. Also it could be your lungs arnt use to the cleaness of the vape. do you cough when you breath air? Cause i did when i was smoking analogs. But didnt cough when i smoked.

nbourbaki has a nice post there,
my opinion sort of follows with his, this may be a temp thing....but there's a fine line especially when new to vaping how much you're vaping, how hard you puff and inhale, it's all new....first, be sure to take just very long, very gentle draws on your e-cig, don't try to huff it like an exhaust pipe. If you started with 24mg/ml juice you should have no trouble getting enough nic but just slow down your vaping cadence and use nice long draws. The nic amount usually isn't the culprit to sore lungs, but you do need to drink a LOT more water to help your lungs clear out...I suspect that is probably what's going on.
But also, PG gave me lung pains as well, and a burning raw throat, coughing, but not right away, that took a couple months of non-stop vaping! I'm on strickly VG for the last eight or nine months now with no trouble, started with 24mg juice, now down to 12mg and much less vaping. I smoked 44 years, 2-3 packs a day of Rollies the last couple years. Vaping saved my life, no doubt in my mind.
Another thing about flavors: you may want to stick with a relatively mild generic flavor until this pain business stops, sometime the flavors can cause problems too. I use ONLY tobacco flavor that I mix myself, so I know EXACTLY what's IN my juice besides nic and VG or PG. No surprises for me. I'm rather a purist about that, just as I love only my 100% Columbian Dark Roast coffee.

I have the same problem. I've been vaping less than a week. After the first night, and I admidt that I barely put the thing down- my lungs were really sore. Felt like I'd been kicked in the chest by a mule.
I could smoke an analog cigarette just fine, but that vapor was hurtin' me. A couple days later, I'm feeling much better.

I figured it was either the nicotine level or PG also- I have 18mg Menthol. I orded some 0mg VG carts to see what happens with those. Also because I can see me vaping way more often than I smoke cigarettes - I'm in the house, Baby!!

I definietly realize the learning curve everyone speaks off also, I was trying to hit it like a regular smoke. And the soreness is just about gone...

If it's worse in the morning when you first wake up, it's most likely due to lack of hydration. My advice would be to drink more water, LOTS more water. Getting a humidifier for your bedroom isn't a bad thing to do either. I had this problem when I first started vaping too and drinking more water definitely helped the problem of burning lungs.

Also, if you want to see if it's an allergy to PG, then cheapest and fastest way to test that would be to go buy a $3.00 bottle of Glycerin USP and see if it hurts the same to vape 100% Glycerin. If that also hurts the same, then it's probably not an allergic reaction to PG and there's no reason to guy a pack of VG and pay shipping and wait a couple days.

Great suggestions whether you're sensitive to PG or not. When I started having problems, I bought 3 humidifiers and brought my humidity from less than 25% to 40%. It didn't help with the lungs, but I sleep better and don't wake up with desert mouth. It also really helped my skin get more moisture.

Thanks so much...the info here has been invaluable. I knew I picked the right company to buy from...being able to ask people who use this product is a huge bonus.

After trawling the internets, I've found that many people have this discomfort at first (like many of you said) so I will be patient and keep trying. Even though it is healthier than regular cigarettes, there are new chemicals that the lungs are not used to...and it takes time to adjust. It could also be that since I smoke light cigarettes, my lungs are not used to harsher hits.

I'm taking WAY light puffs with lots of air now, and even though it still hurts I'm able to breathe it in without it feeling like I'm breathing fire. Cheers to all of you! :D

Glad that you are getting the hang of it, daphne. Those first few days were rough for me as well. Sore throat, achy all over, coughing, various gastro- issues... The good news is that they pass. Take your time and stay hydrated. When you think you're drinking enough water, drink some more. That got me through the first week or ten days. The temporary discomfort is definitely worth the trouble in the long run.

I experienced the same exact thing when I first started vaping, I could not hardly take a deep drag and I could barely hold it in too. I think a lot has to do with the technique you use to inhale also, I inhale into my mouth first, wait a sec, then take the vapor into my lungs, then exhale. I have found that takes away a lot of the harshness. I cannot direct inhale cigs or ecigs.
