Do we need to inhale into our lungs?

Short answer no. We do not. I have noticed just puffing away like a cigar works just as well. Besides the fact that you dont get any TH, it does deliver nicotine to the body. Just as well as inhaling imo.

Luma do you have to use a high nic level to get the "fix" If there's no inhaling?

Nana...that' reminds me, I have some 0mg VG that I have packaged up to send you from before DH went into the hospital the first time. PM with you addy. There's also a blank coolcart, which I find helps considerably with the coughing since the WOWcart burns too hot for me, most days :) Nicotine, by itself is not nearly as addictive as the motion (hand to mouth) of smoking. I had to drop to 0 and 4mg when I first started because I was almost blacking out from coughing.

Also, you do NOT have to inhale! But, slow and steady wins this race...read the information on proper inhalation techniques and find what works best for you :)

Plus, besides drinking lots of water (or low or non caffeine fluids) try a vaporizer at night. Sadly, as we age, our jaw muscles weaken and we breathe more through our mouths, drying out our throats and sinus cavities. I recommend the $25 personal vaporizer from Walgreens that uses a bottle of water as a reservoir :) It has directional and vapor amount controls and has a small footprint :) Failing that, try sleeping with a damp washcloth over your face :)

Hope this helps and don't give up trying :) We'll do our best to get you through this...we want you healthy and analog-free when baby "footsie-wootsie" makes his appearance ;)

I did read somewhere in the last couple of days that VG juices can cause more coughing. Sorry can't remember where I read this. I also find that certain flavours really make me cough - I suspect they may all have a hint of cinnamon in them.

I find I cough a lot on my first few inhalations in the morning, then I modify my technique to mouth 1st, lungs 2nd instead of direct to lungs, which I seem to do in the evening (esp after a few glasses of wine)

I use 18mg. I always inhale. But after I have a big batch of carts that have been cleaned and need to be refilled, I always put a little juice in and test out the vapor production on each cart to decide if I want to use it or toss it. When I do this, I dont inhale as I'm puffing away for awhile. It absolutely gets your veins full of nicotine!

Yes, a higher (not necessarily high) level of nicotine would be best, as buccal absorption (via mouth tissue) is slower and less complete than lung absorption (the lung has much thinner membranes).

I.O.W., your current 4mg level would probably be insufficient if you're trying to quit smoking altogether.

Even when I was smoking those horrid cigarettes, I would rarely inhale deeply into my lungs, but would do a kind of half inhale which would get some of the smoke into the back of my throat where the nicotine and other garbage was absorbed. Of course I did get some of that smoke into the lungs because I had shortness of breath. I find that I use much the same technique with my vapor. It is almost like a half inhale. I only used that full inhale for certain herbal substances which I have not touched for over a quarter of a century (I have to make that disclosure in case someone I know is reading this).
Anyway, even with vaping, fully inhaling the vapor is too much for me, so maybe you can try that "light" half inhale. Try to get the vapor only to the middle of your throat instead of fully getting a lung full.

I don't really understand all of that either. I've read multiple times on ECF that the nicotine is absorbed through our mouths more than our lungs. But like you said op, does that mean we can just get the vapor in our mouths without actually inhaling and get the same fix/buzz?
Personally, and maybe its all in my head, I smoked both ways (mouth inhale and then to the lungs and straight to the lungs inhale). But the last bout if smoking I did, I did the mouth-lung inhale only. When I tried to vape like that I just didn't get enough satisfaction. So I tried the straight to lung inhale. Now that's the only way I do it, only way it feels like its giving me anything. Like I said, maybe its all in my head.
Good luck on finding your happy place op!

Sent on the go from my Evo :)

I personally doubt that dosages under 11 mg nicotine would cause coughing for me, I think when anyone stops smoking they're gonna cough for a month or two, it's to be expected. If vape irritates you, it's most likely the PG. I've vaped 36mg, 24mg, and 18mg without feeling a difference in TH, just a nico headache at 36mg. I've also enjoyed some 4mg vape. It's been estimated that only 10% of the nic gets in the body thru vaping. I'd think the flavor has something to do with it too, as well as the warmth of the vapor and other factors besides nicotine, mainly for new ppl - coughing when quitting smoking is totally normal and helps clean the crap from the lungs. Everyone is different, everyone perceives things differently, this is my take (at this moment of my experience, which is subject to change - lol)

Kanza I'll PM you my addy. I was originally told I had to use Wow cartos with VG & that's how V4L sells it. Also I'll look for the Walgreens personal vaporizer. I haven't seen that one, we use the regular ones all winter as we have forced hot air heating & I have "dry-mouth" according to my Dentist

Hey Nana  my hubby has dry mouth due to the meds he has to take. Look for something called Biotene at the pharmacy or your supermarket. they make a gel that ya just rub a tiny bit in your mouth and it'll moisturize it for hours ! it's called OralBalance. it ain't real cheap for a small tube but it helps him out greatly. they also make mouthwashes that are dentist and doctor reccommended. he uses that too for dry mouth. he never had a problem until the meds he has to take. he was so dry and had tons of throat irritation from it too. this stuff helped him. maybe you too ? :smokie:

I take med for AcidReflux that contributes to the dry mouth.....and BTW I snore worse than any man. . even had to have a sleep study to make sure I didn't have apnea I'll tell ya 'bout it sometime. "All wired up now go to sleep", yeah sure.
I'll look for that OralBalance after all we could all use some balance orally right?

I know how you feel. I have had 3 studies. Severe apnea. Picture me in the parking lot with all the wires hooked up smoking a lucky. :)

Sorry, but I've been through one of those, too, -- and I DID just picture you like that!

In my case, I don't know which was worse -- the not smoking, or the trying to "go to sleep" at 8:00pm (Are these people nuts?? That's dinnertime, not bedtime!)
