Hey everyone. Just joined the forum today. I have set my cigarette quite day as next tuesday and I ordered a Halo Triton starter kit (after much research). I have read alot of pros to changing over to vaping, just wondering about side effects. I ordered a sampler pack of e-liquid from halo in the 24 m strength. 2 1/2 pack a day american spirit smoker right now. what can I expect from my new device and the withdrawal process. I have been smoking for 26 years. Any help would be............helpful.

Hey Jollygiant! Welcome to ECF! We are glad to help you out and excited you are taking a step to quit smoking cigarettes and start vaping. Well, with the side affects some things that happened to me was I got a stuffy/runny nose and a sore throat when I quit. Also, something you may have happen is losing your sense of taste. This usually lasts for about a 1-3 weeks but once you get better you will be shocked at how much better you can taste and smell! If theres any other questions feel free to ask :) Glad to have you here!

It is a different experience for everyone. Some of us switch over without any problems at all, others struggle with it a little more. I was one of the ones that switched with absolutely no problems. I am sure some of the others will chime in on their experiences but I just wanted to wish you luck and tell you to try to stay positive about it. Don't worry about side effects because you may not feel much different at all. If you do have trouble with the urge to go back then get on here and let the group know and they will be your support group. The only real side effect I had is a dry mouth and after reading lots of posts here I learned that this is common and we just need to drink more water.

Hello and welcome to the forum Jollygiant :)
Lots of folks don't have any withdrawal, some have reaction's to PG other's to VG; it's really just a process in its self that you have to experiment with. There is a ton of information here and you should be able to find something about just about everything that comes up.
If you can't find it just ask, lot's of helpful folks here that are eager to help.
Do be sure to drink lots and lots of water as vaping is known to cause dehydration, coffee & cokes don't count by the way

Welcome and enjoy the ride :)

Welcome, and good for you for switching to vaping. I am one of the lucky ones who have had zero side effects, except for that dry mouth, of course.:) But lots of water takes care of that.

I smoked heavily for over 40 years, so I was really expecting some withdrawal symptoms. The first few days, I was using 12 mg juice which they sold me at the vape store. I did have a vague, anxious feeling then, not really an urge to smoke a cigarette, but that something was just not quite right.

I went back and got some 18 mg and 24 mg juice. Within hours of using it, I was totally comfortable and those feelings went away. I tend to use the 24 mg first thing in the morning. Kind of a "jump start" to my day with my morning coffee, then vape 18 mg most of the day after that.

I keep waiting for any symptoms, but the ones I have are nothing but positive. No coughing in the morning. No wheezing at night when I lie down. I smell like my favorite perfume now, instead of smoke.

    Welcome to ECF, Jolly!

    http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...hen-quitting-tobacco-changing-ecigarette.html

Other than that, vaping is not like smoking--be prepared for that. It's a completely different and foreign experience; it takes patience and there is a learning curve. Do not expect miracles. Some people take to vaping easily and quit smoking right away; others struggle, sometimes for years. We're all different.

    Good luck and happy vaping!

It's a long read but this should answer your question thourghly...http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...hen-quitting-tobacco-changing-ecigarette.html

l think the big one for me was around week 3 I started coughing a lot and had a lot of phlem...I may have just had cold so not 100% sure ;)

I also continued to smoke one in the morning, one in the evening, one in car ride for about 3 months so not sure how that played into things either. I dropped from a 1.25 pack a day smoker to a about a pack a month during this period so HUGE improvement. Past 3 months I haven't had a cig at all and have no desire to.

I also started at 32mg...am now down to 18mg. 32mg may have been a bit high for me for starters but I'm wondering if 24mg is going to be enough for you having said that you are 2.5 pack a day smoker currently. If 24 doesn't do it for you maybe up it a bit at first. It's also not a bad idea to have some higher mg laying around when quiting at first. Just to get you over that initial hump or when you have strong desire to have a real one.

All in all it was pretty smooth transition for me. By far easier than anything else I have ever tried. Also don't beat yourself up if you still have a couple real ones from time-to-time when starting with ecigs. There are I think 40 different addictive chemicals besides nicotine in a cig...so it's not just the nicotine withdraw you are going through.

If you are still struggling a few months from now maybe look into WTA liquids whole tobacco alcolides...they have some of the other addictive chemicals besides just nicotine. I didn't have to go this route but have heard that it helps for some that are really struggling through this process.

24mg should be about right at first. If you find yourself wanting a cigarette and can't stop thinking about it, have one.

By far, the most of us continued to smoke when we felt like it as we adjusted to vaping. Most of those who have trouble try to quit cold turkey and switch immediately. I smoked for a long time after quitting my 2 PAD habit, but I only allowed myself a couple with morning coffee, one after a meal, and one before bed at night.

At some point I started vaping while I smoked my after dinner cigarette. Immediately, I notice that the vape tasted good and the cigarette tasted like an ash tray. That was the turning point where I decided to give them up. I did and there were no withdrawal symptoms. I just never wanted another cigarette.

Cold Turkey leaves me with a desire that just has to fade over time. Wanting something and not being able to have it just increases stress.

Thanks so much everyone for being so welcoming. I just can't handle the analogs any more (still working on the lingo) and really haven't had any luck in previous quit attempts. But the $3000 dollars or so a year I spend on smokes is killintg me just like the carcinagins. Also, do any of you vape with the Triton, and are you happy with it? I really hope it is the right set up to start with.

    Welcome to ECF!

Side effects for me were vaping too much, and still do. I charged my first Ego kit though and never felt the need for a smoke since - you may wish to introduce vaping alongside smoking early doors, but that's for you to decide really. 24mg was enough to keep me happy and is a solid starting point. Don't feel bad if it's not enough, plenty of 36mg available if needed. I've found it easy to reduce to 12mg in a couple of months, but don't feel confident I'd have given up the cigarettes on 12mg to begin with. (I was a 20-30 rollup a day for about 17 years)

Physical side effects were minimal apart from needing to drink copious amounts of water. I recommend you do this anyway when vaping. I did struggle slightly with sleep in the first week, as my ritual before bed pre vaping was freezing my ... off at the back door smoking a ciggie. I've lost weight, too, a nice and unexpected side effect. So it's not all bad!

    Good luck :D

NB No experience with a Triton so I'll defer to those in the know regards that.

I have never used the Triton, but I have tried Halo's G6 batteries. The only problem with the Triton may be the fact that it comes with a kr808 connection, which limits your choices of batteries and atomizers--most of the innovation in the e-cig market happens in the 510 connection sphere. Other than that, it's a good unit, basically a copy of the eGo battery outfitted with a kr808 threading. You can't go wrong with it.

I'm glad someone chimed in about the threading. This limits your tank options. I was one of the fortunate ones that dropped the analogs right away (minus the three that as many days to choke down when I bought my first kit. I was going to hell before I threw them away). I started at 24mg and vaped like a fiend the first few days. The worst (and best) side effect was getting my sense of smell back. One of the first things I noticed. It really became evident when I got in my truck after a long weekend. It stunk! I have not had any really adverse effects other than my senses becoming more vivid. I did choke up some goo after about two weeks and still get a chunk every now and again. Mostly in the morning. I hope this helps and Welcome to ECF! There is a lot of good info and good people to help you along the way. Remember that if you can't make it 100% on the first try. Keep after it! It will come when you are ready. Wherever the head goes, the a.. will follow. Get your mind right and it will come.

I've got both a Joyetech Ego and a Halo Triton.

I MUCH prefer the Triton. Better batteries, better vapor production, the parts always fit perfectly and the tanks NEVER leak.

You'll get a lot of people talking about 510 parts and how great it is to have all of this huge selection of stuff for it, but I'll let you in on a little secret...

    1. 99% of 510 threaded parts are junk. When you really get down to it there are only about a half dozen manufacturers that make really good 510 parts, and half of those are not suitable for an Ego/Triton sized ecig.

    2. 510 threading is really fragile and easy to snap off. Drop your ecig wrong and you could end up spending the next couple of hours trying to remove the broken threads from your topper. 808 is much thicker and much stronger.

    3. All 510 parts are NOT created equal. Quite the opposite, you'll find poorly fitting parts are quite common. Check the forums here and you'll find complaints about everything from leaks to parts not letting air through, to parts that damage each other from being tightened "too much". You will not run into these problems with a Halo.

The great part about the Halo Triton is it's designed as a complete system, not a conglomeration of random parts from random manufacturers. Tanks fit perfectly to the batteries every single time. Putting parts together never results in crushed connections, no electrical connection, or other damage. You cannot overtighten the battery/tank. And it's extremely tough too, mine has hit tile and concrete more than once without so much as a scratch.

Yeah, you'll be stuck using great, leak-free Halo tanks instead of all of those leaky Kangers and Protanks that Ego users love so much.

Limiting options would be bad if the options were better than what comes with the Triton. However, I have yet to find a single Ego tank maker that produces tanks that are as leak proof and perfect fitting as Halo tanks on a Triton. The iClear 30/30S tanks are as good, but they are also WAY too big to fit on an Ego sized battery.

99%? It's a wonder any of us are still off the smokes really. :)
