Ok so I'm about to dive into this temp control building. I currently have some 24g ti wire and ready to build my first temp coil. I'm not new to building but I have only used kanthal. So I have a few questions and I hope you all can help me out. I have a few subtank mini's, as it's my fav tank to build on so far.I also have a dark horse that I don't really use and mutation xs. So spaced coil or contact? What about making a Clapton using kanthal on the outside? What does that do to temp control functions? I primarily vape unflavored because I like the taste and it's easy to make quickly lol and I have a busy schedule with my two little ones :) any and all info is helpful thanks guys and gals

You might want to take a look through this thread where you will find about as much as you could about Ti usage.

Titanium wire, vaping and safety

I haven't built Claptons, but I do Ti/Kanthal A1 twists for quite some time now and they work well. Others have had success with Ti/Kanahal A1 Claptons with the Ti being in the core but expect to use lots of power and ramp up time. The TC resistance is mostly based on the Ti and not on the Kanthal A1 since it is much lower and electricity follows the path of least resistance. I do suggest spaced coils with Ti, but it is possible to use unspaced as well, but with TC you need to be sure you don't have minor shorts and similar coils when doing duals. Don't start out with your first build with mixed wire types for TC or you may get confused from the get go.

For a STM, I can suggest starting with a 5 wrap 2.5mm which will get you around a .18 ohm coil. A few folks like to use a 6-32 machine screw to wrap in which will bring that up to more like 2.75mm or so with even wraps.

There are many variations that can be used but that might be an easy starting point.

Thanks I'm going to check that thread out. I mostly hands wrap my coils to cheep to buy a coil jig just yet I'd rather buy vg or more wire lol.I used a twisted 28 kanthal for a long time until I discovered the Clapton. I only have 50 ft of titanium as that stuff is way more expensive but I hear it lasts a long time..... So spaced wrap first on the 2.4 mm screwdriver?I will probably try that out tonight... I have a sigelli 150tc I know that doesn't support titanium and I also have an ipv d2 that does support it....

You could still use the Sigelli 150w but you just need to lower the temperature values. For instance if you like Ti running at 480F you can use 370F on the NI200 profile. Steam Engine has the conversions on the Wire Wizard tab using the Equivalents link. Lots of folks do it that way with older mods that don't have a Ti profile or a TCR adjustment. It isn't perfect, but it does work.

I suggest you get really good a Ni200 first. Ti and TC can be hit and miss and is sort of a "step two" for a person getting into TC.
Very true as long as he doesn't have a problem with Nickel. I used NI200 for a few months and after finding Ti I haven't gone back. I don't like the Nickel taste myself.

Any other suggestions before I start building this first coil? I'm thinking maybe to try a simple spaced coil first...
Don't forget to clean your wire first. Ti wire can be dirty so an alcohol wife or some soapy water and wash is worth not having an off taste on your initial pulls.

NI wire is something that shouldnt exist anymore, we're past that and i think you made the right move by going TI first, i temper my TI with a lighter before i wrap it also, it helps cause the .... is springy. a spaced coil will work well in a subtank mini. if it were me i would throw down a spaced 8 wrap 24g TI coil in there and vape away

My first build was supposed to be a spaced Could. Epic fail Lol... 9wraps of24awg does not fit spaced in the subtank rba. So it ended up being a contact coil wrapped in a3mm screwdriver. Then trying to tune it was a pain. It wouldn't fire on my ipvd2 it came in at .16 ohms. I wanted to put it in power mode at 7 watts with the lights off and lightly, and very short bursts get it to show how it was firing. So because itwas under .2 I had to switch it to my sigeli to tune which only goes down to 10watts. Well once I got it tuned and checked to make sure I didn't make any extra things while tuning I swap it back over to the ipv get the resistance locked in, wick it and give her a go in temp mode. 30 joules 340 degrees..... Barely any Vapor. Crank it up a little more still same results. I also did the dry virgin cotton test first before I wet the wick and it worked just fine. So I puff on it for about five min then all of a sudden it's like my ipv kicked into over drive and it started chucking away... Super warm though... Took a few more pulls then I got a really hot almost burnt hit.... Re wicked then tried again same results left it sitting over night came back to it and back to no hardly no Vapor.... Not sure what I'm doing wrong but I want to still experiment with it and get this ti wire down....

I use STM's too. With 24 gauge, try a 2.5mm bit with 6 wraps slightly spaced. Should come out to around 1.8-1.9Ω. I like mine between 450-470F.

With TI in my subtank mini i use 26 and 8 wraps on a 2.5mm bit, i do lightly dryfire as im not scared of TI oxide as it flakes of with a flick of the screw driver, i mean its real lightly fired not glowing white, and its almost a contact coil, usually comes out at .35 and i vape it at 470 to 510 F. very satisfying vape.
