First try and first questions on a rebuildable

I just got my EHPro kayfun lite clone in the mail today and already got one fail and one partial success in building it.
I bought some 28 gauge kanthal and my first attempt was with the silica that came with the kayfun.
I cut a piece, folded, put a syringe tip in the middle and wrapped the kanthal around it and the silica, 7 wraps. Got 1.2 ohms, too low for me at this point.
Tried it with some dekang usa mix, which I don't really like all that much because I didn't want to waste any expensive juice if there was some kind of a disaster, like a huge leaking for example.
Then I tried again, now I wrapped the 28ga around a screwdriver, 3 mm or so in diameter, 8 or 9 wraps. Came out as 1.7ohms, pretty much what I wanted. It was glowing from the inside out, as I understand it's what I want.
Now I wicked it with cotton, cut it using the sides of the base as a guide, wet it with the dekang, tucked it on the base, taking care not to obstruct the juice channels. Filled the tank with tiki juice (I figured if it got to the tiki was because it was wicking properly).

So, that's the story part, pat on my own back, I now taste tiki juice, it's wicking.

However, I feel like, at the same wattage (7.5W,tried at 9W too) it feels like I'm getting much more nicotine and a little less flavor than with the nautilus mini. Vapor production is a little better than the nautilus.

Does it make any sense? Can my build be yielding less flavor and extracting more nicotine? Can I make any adjustment to get it better?
The cotton is snug into the coil, not very loose, not very tight. Should i try more cotton, less cotton? Should I use lower nicotine juice with the kayfun (I now use 18mg)? Am I completely wrong in every aspect of it?
What are your thoughts? I appreciate any help.
Anyways, happy that it at least works at day one. :)

Cheers!

Did you give your new tank a hot water soak before using it? Sometimes you get some machine oil in there that affects the flavour.

The 28 guage is going to make some difference compared to whatever is used in the nautilus coil;
the only easy adjustments would be the power and the airflow.

On the cotton, IF it is too snug or too loose in the coil you may experience burning and poor wicking. The wick should slide through the coil when you pull on the wick, without deforming the coil but still having resistance in the coil.

Yes your Kayfun may and should make more VAPOR than you clearomizer. Even with the same coil at same power level. I run my Kayfun, in the same ohm range as I did my Clearos.. But the coils are made from bigger wire and fed a bit more power, (jumped from 6-7watts to 8-10) The Kayfun atomizes better by design. The Chamber mixes the air and vapor better. This may mean you might want to vape at different power levels than you are used to and may also need to change the formulation of your juices to accommodate the more affective atomization of the juice.

You have also PROVED that bigger clouds do not equal more flavor. Big clouds can mean you BURNED off all the flavor making the cloud.

I think I got the hang of it. Gotta use the barrel as a guide to cut the cotton at the right length, I folded the cotton up and cut very close to the barrel's edge, it's the best flavor and vapor production I've ever got, at 9W with a 1.7ohm coil.
Thanks for all the help.
I really don't know how it could get any better than this.

Sometimes people don't use enough power, because they compare it to a clearomizer, and they don't get the flavor. Also, make sure the cotton is snug but not bending the coil when you pull it. Another thing is you might want to move to a lower nic level with an rta because they are much more efficient when it comes to vaporizing, and they also use more juice per pull which is more nic per pull. It sounds like you're on the right track. Cotton sometimes has a break in period too, the flavor tends to peak about halfway through its life cycle and then it dwindles off into an eventual burned off taste.
