First try with a clearomizer - question

Ok, I'm putting a tentative toe in clearomizer ocean....started out very slow w/an X2 clearo from SI, and I'm trying it out on my 78mm auto batteries (yes, it looks a little goofy, but it's fine for home use). I'm getting great flavor & vapor, but I'm also getting some weird popping sounds (the first one kind of scared me! )

Is this normal or am I doing something wrong?

I have had that happen when I used to use those. I don't think you are doing anything wrong. At least nothing that I know of.

I think those clearos are the CE4+ (aka stardust) types and that is common with top coils.
Clearo section may be of more help...link.

Edit: I think there is a metal cone on top of the coil. One reason for this was to prevent hot juice from getting into you mouth.

Those types of clearos are they reason I boxed up my cartos.
I've been using the CE3 types for over 4 months, but have some Kanger T2's coming in a day or two to try.
The only issue with the CE4+ types was that they seem to wick certain parts of the juice faster leaving the heavier particulates in the bottom. After 3 top offs, I drained the remaining juice out into a atty. It was the worse juice I ever vaped!
Now I know why the wife was dumping out hers every once and a while.

Edit: There were issues with the tank/shell cracking in earlier versions, I am not sure if they still have this issue now. Either way, I liked them and they are the reason I started looking into different clearos.

I was told it means you just flooded the atty head a bit. I usually burn for a second if I haven't vaped in awhile before actually drawing on the mouthpiece. Seems to have helped me, but yes all my CE4s pop if I've been turning them or laying them on the side for too long.

Yep, this is really a new experience for me! I've gotten all cozy w/refilling my cartos, but I really like the idea of being able to see how much juice I have left (and it seems the flavor is "cleaner" w/o the filler??)

That popping business just scared me a little bit I get a bit of a sizzle as well - guessing that's normal - I think I remember someone mentioning it around here somewhere. ECF is a big place & it's easy for me to get lost sometimes

Gotcha, thanks! I am being extra careful to not lay it on its side because I thought that might cause an issue w/juice getting into the center hole (sorry, I forget the correct term - ugh, I'm such a newb!!)

It came about because when I was a newbie, I got an atomizer that did this popping thing a lot. So, instead of just lurking, I signed up to ECF and asked my 1st question. (People rue that day and still curse that atomizer! )

It was the wick threads popping due to heat. Sometimes they get dry spots or areas the just don't wick well and dry out. They pop. Can happen on atomizers and cartos. Top coils with their long wick strands may have it happen more often. Also happens with any water in the wick for whatever reason.

Before you fire up the carto for the 1st time, it's a good idea to drip a drop of juice on the wick/coil if the particular design allows it. Then fill and make sure the entire wick gets a chance to soak up the juice.

A healthy PV often makes a frying sound.
There are exceptions.
My CE2 doesn't pop and splatter but my DC does at times.
When my cartos become too quite its time to clean or replace.

LOL!! It's funny, when I was searching for some info on this, I happened to see your user name & thought - hey, that's my problem!

This is the 1st & only clearomizer I've ever owned, so all I know is that yes, it does have long wicks I already emptied it once, washed it out per a video I watched, let it dry & refilled it just in case I had done something wrong in filling the 1st time. It is still doing a little mild sizzling, but as I gather that's a good thing, I'm content as long as I have no more......well, you know, atty pops because dang, that scared me!

I'm really pleased w/the flavor (and wow, feels so much better on the lips than those metal cartos!) Haven't shown my new toy to the hubby yet because he already thinks I'm crazy getting all the juices & a purple battery. He just wants the basics; looks like a cig, ice menthol cartos only, please, and no funny business He did, however, ask that I order him another spare battery, and this time would I please get him a blue one..........LOL

I didn't phrase that very well. The long wicks work better IMO... wick better and keep it wetter. So I don't even know why I put that in there except if it was washed and had water, it may take longer to work out.

Yeah, sizzle is normal. Loud "POP" (sometimes with juice flying out the trip tip) is not desirable.
