The USB output is only 600ma so you have to tap into before the boost. The problem is you can end up drawing too much current through the pcb and burning out components (usually one of the small mosfets).
Its best to connect to the B+ and B- on the PCB and then run a parallel circuit keeping in mind that you have to add protection to that circuit.
Thanks nuck! Was wondering why you had to install a boost chip to make it 5v. Was going to just tap into the USB to make it a really cheap mod. But think I'll wait to make it according to your instructions.
