5v reg. heating up. HELP =D

Is it a bad thing that my 5v reg gets pretty hot when it has current going through it? Or is that just normal?

I'm running 2 18650's in series into a 3 prong 1.5 amp 5v TI regulator (if that helps on the info). I'm not using a PCB for this. seemed a lil to complicated for me.

Well regulators will get hot. You can heat sink them but I personally see no reason on mine. They cool off just as fast as they heat up. and still kicking after say around 4 months or so. Now if they were actually being held on for longer times yes it could be a bad thing.
Heat sink could get you a better long term life out of the regulator or maybe it wouldn`t matter as well.

Mine actually just reach the hot point at the same time I let off the switch. It gets hot enough in say 4 sec. that I would be pulling my finger off if it was a longer time. Well I do in fact pull my finger off at 4 sec.

I have only been using the 4 pin with regulator but imagine they all get just as hot.

Does yours get hot enough to burn electrical tape? It is kinda scaring me because i have the reg right in between my 2 batt's. I dont want the heat from the reg to mess up the batteries or make them blow up or something *knocks on wood*

Melt electrical tape. Hmm no electrical tape on mine but I`d say yes it would. It gets pretty hot. I for sure wouldn`t want it touching a battery. If it isn`t I wouldn`t worry on it damaging my batteries. Electrical tape is just a insulater not really good for things that get hot.

One 5 volt I have it is attached to the plastic of the box with superglue. It hasn`t melted the box plastic yet. They get hot enough I actually was keeping an eye on it for a while..

You could always put a heat sink on it. Small chunk of aluminum perhaps. Anything to suck up some heat. Just be sure it`s not close to contacting anything like the legs of the regulator.

Anyone else have a opinion out there? This man needs to vape safely.

You sure it's a 1.5A?

Go with the 3A. A Joye atty, for example, will pull about 2.3A @ 5V.
