Hello Everyone! I'm in Peru this summer (winter here) and I stupidly did not bring any spare coils for my Amor Mini tank on my trusty Reuleaux RX75. I'll be here another five weeks and the vape prices here are just outrageous (roughly three times American prices and very limited choices because of import fees), so I won't be buying anything here most likely. Instead, I'd like to spend some more time thinking about what gear I'll purchase when I get back to the states. I've been reading a lot here on the e-cig forum, and it seems like a nice community, so I wanted to join in.

Has a vape failure ever caused you to go without nicotine for a long period? Has a lack of gear ever forced you to return to cigs?

I bought one cig today after going without nic for three days. Honestly, I'll probably end up smoking a bit here, but I am working on a nice long shopping list to make sure this never happens again! I'm mainly looking at an Atopack Dolphin as a daily carry and an Aegis Legend with Zeus Dual as my reliable main vape. Also started DIY juice about six months ago, wanna give Nic Salts a try and buy more flavors to start experimenting. I want vaping to become more of a hobby for me, and less about making sure I get enough nicotine.

Dang, @anandroidid , not a good place!! Can you get some wire and rayon (or cotton, or....) and rebuild you heads? (I stopped blister pack heads a few years back, so don't know if that's an option.) Or maybe the old alcohol soak might be enough to get some more use our of your heads?

Uh, no. I took the advice early on in my journey, and always have backups. Heck, I don't walk out to get the mail (250' each way) without two mods on me!

Don't sweat the occasional smoke in your current situation. You'll be back "on the wagon" soon :) And, really, it IS about the ones we don't smoke. Less is better.

And welcome to ECF! :thumb:

@DavidOck

I tried washing in alcohol today, and I can still see some residue on the inside of the coil. I tried a hit and it still tasted dry, and the ohms are still reading .27 (started at 0.21). I'll try an alcohol soak tonight. I'm definitely considering a rebuild, could be a fun project and a positive way to handle the situation. It doesn't look impossible...

Thanks for the support!

Have lots of backups. Started DIY in 2013. It is the only way to go. Building coils will save a ton of money as well and it's fun.

Thanks! I got the Kanger Subtank Mini a year ago and it turned me off to RTAs for a while. I couldn't solve the leaking problem. Still not sure what it was, but after watching tons and TONS of youtube videos about how to build I'm definitely looking forward to trying that again when I get back home. Still, it left a bad taste in my mouth, which is why I started looking for "leak-proof" top air flow RTAs.

For my daily carry, yeah, I was reluctant to consider a pod system, but the dolphin seems like the right combination of leak-proof, durable (to drops), and "stealthy" (no huge clouds).

I attached my vapewishlist :D. Let me know if you have any suggestions!

Ever think about squonkers. It is like dripping with RDAs but much more convenient. I use mostly RDAs. Iam not big on RTAs personally.

At first I was really against RDAs and Squonkers because I thought they seemed super inconvenient and technical, but I'm warming up to them. I would definitely consider one. Some RDAs also look really durable which is a huge plus for me. Do you use a dripper on the go? Where do you keep your e-juice bottle? How much do you carry?

If the kanger rba head leaks it is usually a wicking issue, if not wicking an o-ring is probably the problem.

RDAs are simpler than RTAs. I used to use tube mechs a while back. Those can be inconvenient because you have to carry batteries and juice. I use drippers with my Minikin at home now but when it used to go with me I just had a chubby gorilla bottle in my pocket. With the squonk I carry an extra battery and that's it. My Pulse BF mods have 8ml capacity which is plenty when i am at work or out for the day. I have 3 of them with different toppers. One has a Voopoo Demon, one has a GR1, and one has a Dead Rabbit SQ. I you are learning the SQ is really easy to build. It fills from the bottom so it sucks extra juice back into the bottle and it doesn't leak. There are some good regulated squonks out now.

Dripping on the go is one of the many reasons I never liked dripping.
Squonking on a temperature control mod fixes almost all the problems I've had dripping. They can still leak if you have to quickly toss one in a pocket without thought but it's a lot better than having to quickly toss a dripper in a pocket right after you filled it, at least squonking sucks the extra back out.

Hope the soaking of the coils works. I've been vaping for close to 7 years and, at this point, think I could go without if I had to. Not when I first started though. If I was in your situation and I had just started vaping I likely would have smoked some analogs if I could not get any equipment. If you do - don't feel bad since it is only temporary.

In the past, I have soaked coil heads in super hot water and let dry for 24 hours and was almost always able to get another use out of it.

If I couldn't have vaped with Dr requested 0mg early I would've smoked, and I gave that Dr (APN actually) that choice and she allowed it to be TRY going 0mg.
Last year was another time for 3 months of 0mg. That was after 5 years and other than boredom for those 3 months going without would've been easy especially with some other flavored oral fixation like candy.

Thanks I'll definitely look into the Dead Rabbit. I'm not completely sold on squonkers yet. Durability is a concern with my butterfingers. I do like the way the pulse bf looks though, and the price isn't bad at all!

Very intriguing. I'll definitely take a closer look at this squonking technology.

You may want a smaller capacity syringe, maybe 5 ml, to go with that 30. You won't be needing to use a lot of flavorings, so the smaller ones are more accurate at those low amounts.

Yeah, the STM's gained a rep as leakers. I found the problem to usually be the o-ring between the head, RBA or blister, and the base. Lube-ing with juice - and getting it REALLY tight, seemed to work. Setting the coil too low can be another cause, not limited to the STM.

I’m pretty sure I’d smoke cigs if I had 5 weeks left. Yeah definitely.

Makes me think that maybe a pod system would be good for traveling in the future.

I’ve always washed out my coils in hot water then air dried to get several more days out of them. But good luck.

You must have been holding your mouth wrong, I had no issues with any of my STMs outside of getting the OG rba head cap open. Was so happy when they released the new rbas.

Should've mentioned I got a bunch of syringes with my DIY starter kit a while back, but the biggest one was 10ml! Pitiful! I thought some 30ml stabbies would speed up the mixing process a bit. Thanks for taking the time to look at my list.

I haven't looked at my STM in a while. I remember doing a bit of research and playing with the o-rings for a while before giving up. I thought I had it working, and then I woke up one morning to a big puddle of e-juice on my nightstand. It's been in a box ever since ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I'll definitely give that a try when I get back home though.

But good luck.

Thanks! I've gotten some great tips here already, so I'm not resigning myself to cigarettes just yet. ;)
