flat or tipped 18500 batteries for reo 2.1 ?

The AW button top 18490's are the best to use.

The firing mechanism is constructed for use with the button top batteries. Like was said, the AW IMR 3.7 18490. Using the flat top batteries will require more pressure on the button to make contact. It does cause stress on the firing mechanism over time.
